So tonight the Naval Academy rescinded my appointment because of my pollen allergy and wheezing episode when I was four. This is of course after I completed my validation tests and got my Permit to Report packet. Is there any way I can appeal this decision or do I have to take the foundation school offer they gave me?

Here is the info about Mr. Mullen. In case you aren't aware, he is the director of DODMERB and the grandmaster of all things medically related.

If you have any questions regarding DoDMERB about policies, procedures, your specific case (I will have to verify who you are), or anything else, I am the DoDMERB official to provide you a response. I'm always available and in most cases, will respond immediately, but will respond within 24 hours on all cases.

My email address is ALWAYS open. I'm the DoDMERB Bureaucrat Buster. Give me a chance:) Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil

Now that I've been at this for a while, I "usually" log in late at night and several times throughout the weekend. The issue is the fact that this is not an "official" site and the USAF maintains a very high level of internet security. So, I can't access the site from work---I must log in from home.

Thx in advance for your understanding, patience., and the opportunity to assist you

    Larry Mullen
Deputy Director, Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB)
    8034 Edgerton Drive, Suite 132
    USAFA, CO 80840-2200
PREFERRED METHOD OF CONTACT IS EMAIL 24/7/365 = Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil

Remember to include your full name and last four of your SSN when writing to Mr Mullens. Good luck. I can imagine the shock. Keep us posted.

    rescinded

How is this solution going to achieve anything? If I understand correctly, because of a (rarely) recurring medical condition, they will delay your entry for one year. Like that's going to suddenly make you non-allergic or something. What will this achieve?

On another note, I will also be going foundation, and I view this as a blessing, I will be able to prepare for all that will be required at the Academy in an excellent environment, and this will help me achieve more, and be a better mid once at the academy.
I understand your frustration, I would hate to be in your position, as it doesn't entirely make sense.
Sorry things didn't quite go as you planned, stay strong,
    GO NAVY!

No one on this forum can help you other than Larry Mullen. Seriously.

Larry Mullen is the greatest, if anyone can help you he can. I want him to run for high office but he keeps saying no.

Don't tell the director of DODMERB that Mr. Mullen is the director....there might be a fight.

Mr. Mullen is the Deputy Director....and is the grand master of all things DoDMERB like you said.:thumb:

I concur. Something doesn't sound right.

The situation as I understand it:

    • You cleared DODMERB with a waiver (not sure of what "validation tests" you are referring to, I assume they were medical remedials) from USNA.
    • Your Class of 2013 appointment was awarded.
    • Foundation Scholarship was awarded, (1 year prep, then 99.9% appointment to USNA Class of 2014).
    • Medical waiver was retracted.
    • USNA Class of 2013 retracted.
    • Foundation Prep offer still valid, which would allow you to enter Class of 2014 with SAME condition that denied you entry to Class of 2013.

I am sure we don't know the "whole story" that is for Mr Mullen to sort out with WVA2009.

Not related to this specific case necessarily but..............
    A Reminder:
If there is a change in your health, DoDMERB needs to be notified and this could impact your appointment. Any injury, illness or other situation can cause an appointment to be recinded at any time up to and including R-Day/I-Day.

Sometimes health situations can be resolved and the academy can turn you back to the next year, reserving your spot. Obviously, there are some conditions that will not be waiverable.
