DS received AFROTC scholarship to Plan B school and appointment to USAFA. He is honored but wants the SA most, thus, is inclined to accept the appointment early. My question is will an early acceptance leave him in the cold in the event of pre-induction injury? Should he wait and assess in April-May before deadline? What are the pros, cons, and risks involved?

Congratulations on both counts! That is fantastic news.

There is always a lot of discussion regarding what kids who receive both should do. You will find both opinions on this topic in old threads. I tend to think that as he has earned both, he should accept both. Once he signs on the dotted line at I-day (think that is what AF calls it) his scholarship will be null and void. And it is nice to have that ace in the hole...just in case. Not everyone agrees.

Good luck.

He can accept the scholarship, if he gets injured prior to I day resulting in him being medically turned back from USAFA, but would be medically qualed for the date of ROTC come AUg/Sept. than the scholarship will stay in place.
~ Upon I day the scholarship will be rescinded.
HQ AFROTC and USAFA do not talk. Iows neither knows their results.
