Typically this time each year, the first couple of rounds of applications have been reviewed by the CCEB (Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board). I expect the first of the appointments to the Class of 2019 to be released very soon. I know there were a few LOA's given, so those will likely be among the first notified provided they submitted their applications in time, etc.

Best of luck to those of you waiting patiently (or not so patiently)

DD received a call from the coach at CGA at the end of last week informing her that her appointment is in the mail. DD hasn't received it yet, though.

DS received a call from admissions yesterday to notify him of his appointment and he was told to expect the BFE in the mail. Previously received an LOA in September, but he was still excited to get the official call.

Congratulations Cidgrad! And to your son as well. Be sure and join the Facebook 2019 CGA Parents group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/USCGAPARENTS2019/

You will find the network you make there to be invaluable especially leading up to and during Swab Summer.

Congrats on your son's LOA mate!

From a fellow Cid grad ('91), my son is also working through the various application requirements. Was there a particular reason your DS didn't attend our alma mater? My son made it clear that his Mechanical Engineering degree was more important than going to his "Dad's" school. Can't blame him for that...

Class of '92 here.

Couple of reasons he chose CGA over the Cidadel...not to mention the fact that being a legacy didn't seem to have much appeal to him either. First of all is the fact that he wants to be a Coast Guard officer. Secondly, the quality of the education and opportunities afforded to the cadets is without equal among the SMCs. Thirdly, he was recruited quite heavily by the coaching staff at CGA, whereas his recruitment by The Citadel was pretty lazy (and he had plenty of interest from D1 schools, so I would have expected better).

I think the intensity of the 4th class system is probably a bit tamer at CGA as compared to what we experienced in the late 80s, but it is probably a bit tamer at El Cid at this point as well-so I don't think that played any factor.

Tell your DS to get that application in...and good luck to him whichever path he chooses. I still think The Citadel offers a unique education experience.

is the academy web site down?

...Whenever I check the website on my computer it gives me an error page...

...But when I check it on my phone (connected to the same network) the page is accessible...

EDIT: even if I try using a different browser.
EDIT 2: Solution: I was typing uscga.edu in order to get to the page, but it doesn't work anymore. Either type cga.edu, or search it on google.
