April CVW

I will be there hopefully if my Beisbol coach doesn't kill me first. We have 2 games during the duration of the CVW and if I go I'm probably gonna come back to sour faces.

Last night DS and I returned from the March CVW. Here are a few tips for those parents who'll be attending next month:

Friday you'll be kept busy from 0900 to approximately 1530. Bring your note pad, and your questions. You'll have access to Q&A sessions with parent sponsors, midshipman, and admission officers.

You'll also have a STEM briefing and lab deck tours (highly recommend.)

We were in Rickover Hall for all briefings. Sit as close as possible to the front as it is very difficult to hear from the back.

I'd suggest someone plagiarizing my March CVW thread. My DS and I were able to meet several families for an early dinner prior to Thursday evening reporting. My DS instantly connected with some amazing young men. I on the other hand, met some terrific parents from different states who I'll be able to keep in contact with during this crazy process.

Send goodies for your DS or DD's Plebe, bring a camera, and comfortable shoes to walk in.

Enjoy your time, and be prepared to take full advantage of the Q&A sessions!!!

I just got back from the March CVW. Great experience that gives you a realistic taste of a typical day at USNA.
Some suggestions: Bring a laptop or book or something you can do while your plebe is doing HW and before taps. Bring some snacks to share with your temporary roommates.

Lastly and most importantly, ask tons of questions and take it all in.

I will be attending the April CVW if I can raise the money for the travel expenses in time. I may need to work a few double shifts and just about every day after school, but I hear it's so worth it. I believe my mother will be in attendance for the parent parts, as well. I know she would love to meet some other potential parents club members there. I'm looking forward to this! :)

So will I.... I'll have to work extra during spring break and also book my flight.

I look forward to a lot of things I've heard many stories about Annapolis from my Senior Marine Instructor
But to be able to experience it for my self is sure to be life changing.

CVW Coming Up

Hey guys, 2 questions:

1.Did anyone who will be attending the April CVW get anything after the email confirmation? I am surprised that there were no forms to fill out or releases to sign.

2. Are drags allowed to participate in PT during their visits to the Academy? I've heard different things about this.

Thanks for your help,
Evan

1. I can't answer.

2. Yes you are, I played soccer with my mid at my CVW.

1. You will receive something a few days before, I got mine on a Monday and I arrived at USNA on that Thursday.
2. Yes, the plebes are training for sea trials right now so you will most likely be given the option to go to their morning power hour, I advise you go, it's early and challenging but a great experience and beautiful runnin by the bay in the morning.

Thanks for the responses! Sea Trials training sounds really cool. I can't wait!

Yeah I went to a CVW in October, but it was during Air Force week and the government shutdown, so it was pretty hectic. I brought my swim jammer but never had to use it. I did do some PT with my plebe in the early morning. Drags were not allowed to do the wrestling that they did for PT. For me, there was a lot of downtime, so bring something to do. The cot I slept on was awful, to be honest. Also there is no wifi. Bring a snack for your plebe and roommates, if possible - they will like it.

There shouldn't be any other forms, I was on the March CVW and just RSVPd when I first got the invite and showed up.

Yes you can do pt. I was up at 530 to do an hour of swimming laps and treading water so make sure you bring a bathing suit!! And don't worry about what kind. All the mids wore knee length bathings suits, no speedos (that was one of my initial concerns).

So have any re-applicants received an unsolicited CVW offer? Seems like USNA wouldn't have more until the fall, since everyone's away during summer.

Just my .02. Any parents who'll be attending April's CVW, if you haven't already may I suggest you read the, Principal Nom-Wait List thread. You'll have an open Q & A session with admission officers. This might a subject you'd want to have clarified.

Make sure you sit in front so you can hear. If there are no seats up front, sit on the aisle stairs.
