Are the appointed willing to share their stats?

Thanks for posting. Sometimes I lose my faith when I see the grade postings of so many amazing students and all of their accomplishments. Don't get me wrong, I know they are very hard working and deserving. Just not sure DS is in their league academically. He will ace the CFA test and try to shine his best in all other areas.

Crossfitter

Hi Futuremid and all Fellow Posters...

Futuremid - My DD will be so excited to find another fellow Crossfitter at the Academy! Crossfit has really influenced her life in the past 18+ or so months! She is already varsity crew, captain the past two years but Crossfit is her passion. She participated in the Crossfit Kids competition at the Home Depot Center this past summer. Did you by chance compete as well?

So, some of her stats that I know:

Sports:
Crew - 4 years varsity
Crossfit - 18 months or so
Weightlifting - dead lift PR @ 335#'s (thanks to Crossfit)

Academics:
SAT's:
CR 640
Math 740
Writing 620
The math course she took 1st semester/senior year was Multivariable Calculus.

She was an LOA recipient, appointment received 11/22/11.
She received a ROTC nomination.
She attended 1st Session Summer Seminar and received the IronWoman Award.

Looking forward to seeing all at I-Day!

Along the same lines as SA2017 I have a question regarding my DS who is a current high school junior.
DS attends a very competitive private school. His current gpa uw is 3.45 but weighted is 3.75. Is there any chance that the USNA will even consider his application with a gpa below 3.5? He had a particularly hard sophomore year and he is currently digging himself out of the hole. I think by the end of his 7th semester he could have a 3.5. Any thoughts. Don't hesitate to be honest please!

My WEIGHTED GPA was a 3.6 .... don't even want to look at the unweighted... so yes, you can still get in. Strive to be the best you can be though. Like I said earlier, I placed my priorities more in the sports/extracurriculars because I love what I do outside of school.

OH MY GOD I LOVE CROSSFITTERS

I'm too much of a baby to try and do it alone, though, and I do not trust our local affiliate. I stole a bunch of good WODs, though.

To anyone who wants to bump up their physical stats: Crossfit is pretty dang good. Be smart about it, though.

JettAirliner -- If you want to get in touch with DD about Crossfit, send me a PM. I'll put you in touch with her... She could talk Crossfit for hours.

She's also participating at the Crossfit Kids Open and Crossfit Kids Gauntlet Competition in Columbus, Ohio the first weekend in March.

Hello! Yes! That's probably how long I've been on it. I've been MIA from xfit the past four and a half months due to a shoulder injury from football, but I'm slowly easing back into it with a ton of physical therapy. I love it. I talked to a mid on the yard about xfit last week & found out about the xfit team there. I was gung ho about playing rugby until I heard about this. It's kind of official! I might just choose crossfit as my sport come august. I have done local gym comps, but no regionals/trisectionals/xfit games or anything.

I wanted to take minute to thank all those that are posing their stats or that will post their stats.
First it is interesting, second it is motivational, third it gives you a sense of purpose and goals to strive for over the next year.
Good luck to you all during plebe summer.

English apparently isn't a priority.

English apparently isn't a priority.
Indeed not, and that points back to the Academy's mission as a science academy, and not a Liberal Arts college. I don't imagine English is that important, relative to Math, at Caltech or MIT either.

This from Wikipedia:

"President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law an act of Congress on 25 May 1933 providing for the Bachelor of Science degree for Naval, Military, and Coast Guard Academies. Four years later, Congress authorized the Superintendent to award a Bachelor of Science degree to all living graduates. "

There is no Bachelor of Arts degree awarded at the Academies.

While it's true that USNA only offers BS degrees and science is certainly very important - remember they only consider the Math and English/Reading sections of the SAT/ACT for admissions - you can ace the science section and it won't make any difference in your weighting.

Actually, not to nit-pick, but I think it is only Math and English ACT scores that are considered-Not reading and science.

Do Good on MATH & SCIENCE.

This is more what I was commenting on...

English probably should be a priority given the horrifying quality of the plebe papers I edit. *shudder*

I can tell you that when you communicate to someone outside of your command, in an official capacity, and your correspondence has numerous grammar/spelling issues, run-on sentences, is confusing/wordy, etc., it is not only a direct reflection on you, but also your CO/Commander.

Given that the Navy does a lot of correspondence (email, letters, reports, investigations, messages via message traffic, etc.), when there is poor quality in these documents and your CO/Commander finds out....it might not be pretty.

Also, remember that your CO/Commander writes your performance reports, therefore, if your quality of work isn't up to expectations, it could reflect in those evaluations.

Point being, is you need to take English with importance, even though it isn't overly stressed for Admissions and sometimes isn't a top priority at USNA.
You also don't want to embarrass yourself to the outside world. :)
