Forum newbie so please forgive my ignorance upfront. I'm curious whether the Army establishes quotas by college for national scholarship awards?

    In a sense yes.

From what I understand, Schools have a scholarship budget which can be met by a combination of 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5, and 2 year scholarships.

This is one of the reasons school selection on the application can have an effect on getting a scholarship. Some schools may have far more applicants then budgeted scholarships, making it much more competitive. Some schools may not have enough to fill their budget making them less competitive.

I have heard elsewhere on forum that some schools have more than one four year, but this is not the case at DS's school. As matter of fact, some national scholarship cadets don't make it past first year or two.

Very true, my son commissioned in May, he was the only original 4 year scholarship winner in his class to commission, the other two dropped the first year. One cadet that did not receive a national scholarship, was given a battalion scholarship and commissioned with my son.

Are battalion scholarships limited to enrolled students or can they be awarded to incoming students as well?

Marklaker my son received a four year campus based scholarship as an MSI. He contracted in December and it paid tuition and fees retroactively. Hope that answers your question.

My apologies, nofodad, but what is an MSI?
