Hi,

I attended the USMMA back in 1984 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1986. Am I considered a Veteran?

Is it for benefit purposes or just a definition question?

I don't know the ins and outs of how reserve time counts, so I won't be any help answering the question.

My assumption would be that you would not be considered a "Veteran." (Because you didn't deploy or serve out your USNR obligation) But, I really don't know the legal requirements to be considered a veteran. I found this website, it might help:
http://va.org/determine-your-veteran-status/
Good luck.

Good link above. Check your residency state veterans' department/affairs/agency site too. State veteran eligibility and benefits can vary. Completely separate from Federal system.

The segment of the reserve that you are sworn in to on acceptance day is such a "deep" standby reserve (USNR-S2/Inactive I believe) that your time is not officially creditable towards official veterans status.
