Is it possible to be a Sapper and a Ranger?

Yes, but unlikely. It's hard to get one of those schools, much less both. It's a matter of timing and unit resources.

Remember that those are both just schools.

Do you mean its hard for ROTC cadets and USMA cadets to get both schools, or hard anytime in your career to get both?

I think anytime in your career. I know it's rare, but possible for USMA/ROTC cadets to go to Sapper School during the summer, right? But Ranger is for when your actually in the Army..

It's not impossible to get the Tower of Terror (which usually also includes SF), but it's extremely unlikely.

Tower of Terror? And yeah I could tell it'd be hard. What are the major differences between Sapper and Ranger?

In short...Sapper is shorter and not as demanding. It's only about 2/3 as long as Ranger. It's geared toward combat engineer patrols & tasks. Both schools are NOT schools designed to make you a super warrior. They are small-unit leadership schools. Women can attend Sapper.

Sapper is not nearly as well-respected as a course as Ranger. For years, the Sapper tab was not authorized for wear.

The Tower of Terror? That's a new one...

I've heard it used a lot....SF Ranger Sapper...some cadets call it the "tower of terror".

I've only ever seen one officer here with all three.

Say your both a Sapper and a Ranger, would that mean you'd go in a Ranger Unit? Since Ranger is more wel-respected, so to speak?

For Sapper, Officers must be 0-3 or below right? Does that apply to Rangers and SF too? And being one means to be in a SF unit right?

No- Ranger School is a TRADOC school not a branch qualifier. It's required for an Officer to be assigned to the Ranger Regiment, but there are tons of tabbed Officers who are not in and will never be in the Ranger Regiment which is basically a specialized Airborne Infantry regiment under the USASOC.

SFOC is a branch qualifying school. You go to Assessment and the Q course and then if you successfully complete the course become an SF Branched officer and go to SF assignments.

Exactly. Being a member of the Regiment makes you a Ranger. The school does not. Or, in the parlance of the Army..."The tab is a school, the scroll is a way of life."

SFAS eligibility is based om your year group and your time remaining before you pin on major. They will tell you if you can assess or not.

So even if you're a Ranger, if you successfully complete the course for SF, you go to SF instead of Ranger, right? (Just double checking lol)

Ugh. Read what you're being told. Going to Ranger school does not get you into Ranger Regiment. It's a minimum prerequisite to even be considered for selection. Thousands of Lieutenants in the Army have Ranger tabs. They will not go to Ranger Regiment.

Completion of the SFQC Alpha Course changes your branch from whatever you were (11A, 12A, 19A, etc.) to 18A (Special Forces officer). Your branch drives your assignment.
