Is anybody still waiting on a medical waiver for the Army? If you received a waiver, how long did it take?

My son received a scholarship on the 2nd board in February and is waiting on a waiver.

DD's whole DoDMERB process is dragging on. At this point, we have no hope that a medical decision will be decided by the 1 May enrollment deadline. She is already reaching out to schools looking for extensions. If ROTC scholarships don't end up being an option, she won't be going to those schools, so she has to secure her merit scholarships at another school where she will attend without the scholarship if waiver is not granted, or if there is no decision before school starts.

FYI, last year DS was awarded a scholarship on the second board ( awarded 02/01/2013) and needed a medical waiver. It was exactly 90 days from waiver request to waiver granted. Best of luck to you all.

We share your discouragement, but don't lose hope yet! All things are possible ..

Our DS is still awaiting Medical Waiver for USMA, AROTC, and USNA. His process began on January 8th; remedials requested on March 5th were completed by March 11th; additional remedials requested last night were completed this morning. DS is in a similar situation as your DD ... 1st choice academy, 2nd choice ROTC ... so he is also working on Plan C just in case.

What we can't determine is how long the waiver process will continue and offers be made if/when waivers are granted for otherwise qualified candidates? Can/Will waivers be granted and appointments offered clear up through June?

My son chose to use his scholarship at Texas A&M. He plans to join the Corps and take ROTC. He also plans to take Arabic. If he doesn't get the waiver before school starts, I guess he will do everything he's planned to do in the hopes that he will get the waiver.

If he ends up not getting the waiver, I don't think he will want to take Arabic since the reason he is taking it is for his military career. Plus, he will be in the Corps and ROTC, but if the waiver is denied then I guess it will never be possible for him to have a career in the Army. It would be helpful to know these things before school starts.

He is going to attend A&M with or without the scholarship, so at least that part isn't an issue other than the out of state tuition is very high. So far he hasn't received any scholarships from A&M which would have made his tuition the same as in-state ($1,000 or more).

I guess if we don't hear by the time school starts, we will just pay the tuition and proceed as if he may eventually get the waiver. I suggested that he hold off on the Arabic though.

DS was put on the waiver list for USNA in August or September. Still no word. Qualified Army and Marine Corps with no problems.

DS was granted a waiver for USMA last week (128 days after it was requested) - HURRAY!! Now he's awaiting the official notification (our congressman calls the nominees himself) and BFE!

But DS waiver status is still "pending waiver submission/review" for AROTC and USNA. He received TWE from USNA last week, so we don't expect a waiver there. But the AROTC waiver is part of his Plan B (also at TAMU), so we are hoping it is granted just in case... without it DS will need a Plan C. :-(

Congratulations on the granted waiver for USMA! That's great.

My son still hasn't heard anything from the Army. He chose to use his scholarship at TAMU, so I guess if we don't hear anything he will join the Corps of Cadets and ROTC and proceed as if he will get it. One person posted that their waiver was denied, but they were able to prove themselves and it was granted. So maybe my son can do that. There's nothing wrong with him, so hopefully in the end it will work out.
