So about two weeks ago, I took my physical fitness test, my interview and around the same time that week I sent in my ACT and SAT scores. I checked my application status today and it only says the physical fitness test is entered, what should I do? Or does it normally take awhile for that to be updated?
Good job in getting everything done early! Although there is typically a delay for all docs to appear on the website, you should nevertheless do the following:
Be sure to maintain contact with the ROO with whom you interviewed (if you haven't done so already, you should have sent him or her a personalized "thank you" email). Then, wait a couple of weeks and give the ROO a call and have him or her look on the internal ROTC network to confirm that all of your documents are timely filed. You can also confirm with your contact person at Cadet Command that your file is complete and that you have everything turned in for the next board. This way, you've got confirmation from the AROTC website, the ROO, and the contact person at cadet command that your file is complete. Also, make sure that college board timely submits your SAT/ACT scores to cadet command. There are so many moving parts in this process, and you need to be on top of everything and do what you can to reduce the risk of administrative error in the process.
Getting your file complete and "board ready" is ultimately your responsibility. Last year, there were some folks who were under the impression that their files were complete for the January board, but they were not. To remedy this, the candidates were then bumped to the April board. But the stats of awards from the April board were less promising because of fiscal issues and many candidates filed applications after the first and even the second boards, making the competition for scholarships stiffer and stiffer (high school students often don't start thinking about college seriously -- especially about how to fund it -- until well into the fall semester). This year especially, you really should try everything you can to ensure your file is complete for the first board on October 17; if you don't get picked up for a scholarship on that board, you will be automatically considered for the following boards and thus will have two more opportunities in 2012.
Note that the October 17 board date is NOT the internal cut-off deadline when everything needs to be complete -- the staff needs a few weeks to package the candidate packets that will be reviewed, so the real deadline should be early October or late September. Your ROO will know that internal deadline, and you should ask him or her about it.
