Army ROTC chances?

I'm really only interested in the Army, but I do wish they had a program like that.

The Army may not have a specific program but there is nothing preventing you from majoring in a language. Major in a specific approved language and you will receive CLIP money on top of everything else. Study abroad is also encouraged for cadets in qualifying majors.

Hmmmm. Nothing wrong with that. Just curious as to why you've ruled out Marines. Also, Jcleppe is correct about the extra pay which is why my DS took two semesters of Arabic before he decided it was bringing down his GPA too much with that C this semester. Further language education will be at the expense of USMC.

Part of the reason I'm interested in North Georgia is because they've really sold me on their Arabic program. I'm in the process of applying there now, just having a terrible time deciding between a Finance and Arabic major. Any advice?

You have to sort that one out bud. Your life and all that. Of course you could always minor in one and major in the other. If I were picking, Arabic would be the minor, including cultural courses.:thumb:

Definitely seems like it would open up more opportunities after the military. :thumb:

Just a random question: My dad and I were discussing how there will be less AROTC scholarships awarded this year. He said I'm at a severe disadvantage, mainly because I'm a white male.

I tried to argue that the military doesn't use race or sex for this kind of stuff, because lives are on the line. Does ROTC have a quota they have to fill with minorities given scholarships?

Not that I'm aware of. But then I can't claim to be an AROTC expert. In any case, even if there is, I don't think I'd put the word severe in front of disadvantage, if there is any disadvantage.

It just seems odd that the US military would use something as shallow as race to determine who gets the opportunity to lead troops. I think the scholarship should be completely merit based!

The Academy focuses on diversity more then ROTC, being a white male will not hurt your chances. Diversity is a part of ROTC but not enough to get stressed out over.
