Army ROTC Scholarship Notification

Hi Marine Mom,

I think the web is down on purpose waiting for everyone who was offered a scholarship from the frist board the opportunity to receive their letters. Earlier in the week, the web status were partially updated and reflected a link for DodMerb.

From what I understand, DodMerb had not recevied the list of scholarship winners until Friday. So my guess is they took the site down to avoid a rush of inquires to DodMerb prematurely and in advance of the offical notifications by mail. I understand the notifications are now showing up in mailboxes.

Hi ROTCDad,

Maybe the letter will come tomorrow. I know my son is anxious.

However, I was thinking maybe it would be better if he was accepted by one of the later boards. That way he'd have more of his college acceptances in. So far, he has only been accepted to Texas A & M. Most of his other choices were private which will notify later. From what I have been reading he has to accept the scholarship within 30 days. At this point, I assume he'd have to accept it for A & M, even if later one of his other choices accepted him. I'm assuming he could change his college choice???

Hi Marine Mom,

I think the earlier the better. From what I have read in this and other forums, is that usually slots for each School program are precious commodities.

If the PMS has indicated your son for acceptance, he/she have a pretty good sense that your child will meet the schools requirement and will likely attend this school and be successful.

This is by no means official or guaranteed, but if he has been selected by the PMS than he most likely to meet the schools profile for acceptance.

With that said, from what I have learned from other parents in these forums are that you may change schools, but you would want to do it sooner than later as with each subsequent board, the scholarships slots are further allocated. If it is a popular school, than you may be at risk loosing a slot if you wait too long.

The official word is that you have up until May 1st, same as most schools to make a change if desired.

I encourage you to read through the various strings, lots of good informal info out there and make your best judgment from the collective knowledge base.

Awaiting a decision for Army ROTC board

My son was accepted to his top 3 schools, (Citadel, Temple, Shippensburg University). His application for the Sep-Oct board was ready and should have been reviewed. Do you know if it helps if you are already accepted to your top 5 schools before the board meets? Anxious Mom and almost Cadet

First Round Offer Received

My son received his offer Friday. He was offered a four year scholarships at either UVA, Villanova, Wake Forest or the University of Richmond. He has until December 5th to choose his school and accept the scholarship.

Scholarship Offer

His offer was only for the four schools listed. He has applied to Villanova (early decision - non binding) and his top choice is UVA.

UVA is one of my top picks for ROTC as well. They really only gave your son until the firs week of December o decide? That seems awful rushed, especially since most people have not heard anything from any schools by then.

That is the nature of the early award beast, so to speak. You have to make a decision in 30 days. They do give you an opportunity to change your pick later on in case circumstances have changed for any reason from your original selection of school. However, there is a chance that by that time, ROTC scholarship slots might be filled at your alternate choice. Just make your best pick with a combination of what you want most and a school you will likely get accepted to.

Peck,
My son also has Richmond and Wake on his list. Wake is his #1, but the biggest reach. Reachable, but a reach nonetheless.

If your son has a legit chance at UVA admission, he must have super-high stats. Based on that, I'm wondering if the Army would consider Wake to be a pipe dream for Son. Would you mind telling me if your son's profile is far above, above, or comparable to the following...

4.0/3.6 weighted/unweighted GPA
1330 SAT
29 ACT
7 APs, 21 Honors
athletics, leadership, and other extra-cirriculars are strong

Thanks.

My son's GPA is 4.05 weighted/3.86 unweighted and he has a combined 1420 SAT score. The rest is comparable.

Son got the letter

We are in Pa and just got our son'e letter today. We got most of his choices but not his first choice.
Does anyone know if you can work to get your first choice?

Sooooo excited.
My daughter received a phone call yesterday letting her know she had qualified for her Army ROTC Scholarship.
She also qualified her DodMerb too.
In the mail today was her Notification of her Scholarship...
She was soooooo happy :)

Good luck to everyone :)

No letter arrived here in Texas. Since the letters reached OCJosh in California, I can only assume my son didn't make the cut this time - perhaps next board.

Letter Made it to Florida on Monday!!!

Congrats all. I would imagine CA will be today...
