I am currently a sophomore who contracted this year as a scholarship/smp cadet. Last year as a freshmen I did ROTC uncontracted. However, this year I was able to contract (scholarship also) and enlist both around the same time.

My question is, am I required to go to basic training, and if I do go to basic training, under my conditions, will I be required to go through MEPS medical or will there be ways around going through that process.

smp/scholarship

It's my understanding that if you are contracted/scholarship cadet you are inelligible for smp, therefore, no basic. Clarkson, Marist, jcleppe et al. true?

That was my understanding as well.

You stated your a SMP Cadet with a contract, what scholarship are you on, is it a GRFD through the National Guard.

The last I have heard is that you can't be on a straight ROTC Scholarship and enlisted in either the Guard or Reserves doing SMP, it's one or the other.

The GRFD scholarship may be different, I don't really have much knowledge with the GRFD.

As far as basic, you are not required to attend BCT or AIT. The only reason to attend both BCT and AIT would be if you wanted the GI Bill and Kicker. Can't tell you whether you would be required to go through MEPS or not.

As others have said it depends on what type of scholarship you got but most likely you won't have to attend basic/AIT.

Yes, I am pretty sure you would have to do MEPS anyway even in lieu of the DoDMERB.

It sounds like he signed a GRFD Scholarship contract, which would mean that he is in fact a SMP Cadet.

SMP Cadets in the New York Army National Guard are not required to go to Basic or AIT. This may vary from state to state. It also may be a requirement if you enlisted for an MOS that was paying an enlistment bonus. We had a Cadet a few years ago who elected to go to Basic/AIT in order to retain a % of the enlistment bonus.

His recruiter should be able to answer whether or not it is a requirement to attend Basic/AIT.
