Beginning in 2015-16, women's lacrosse will become the 10th member of the Patriot League, which currently supports American, Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola and Navy's women's lacrosse programs. This announcement will elevate West Point from the competitive club level, from which it has competed since 1979, to varsity status.

My DD plays lacrosse, so this increase the chance of my DD to apply to West Point by .000002%

Interestingly there is no corresponding announcement to cancel another program to pay the bill.

Good for them. USNA may have an advantage given how strong girls' lacrosse is in the academy's back yard (Annapolis/Baltimore/Severna Park/DC area), but there's good girls' lacrosse in NY (on Long Island in particular) and a good coach should be able to get a lot of interest. Division I women's lacrosse programs are far from fully funded in scholarships, so being able to play Division I lacrosse at a great academic school and not have to pay tuition should be a good draw at USMA as it has been at Navy. Navy was smart -- went out and hired a women's collegiate lacrosse coaching legend -- so hopefully Army will hire a good coach to get its young program off the ground.
