AROTC 1st Board Results

Congrats to all, it is tradition to start a running list of winners to include screen name, DD/DS, 3 or 4 yr and schools

I received a 4 year to Princeton, Northeastern, and William and Mary!

Congrats everyone who received a scholarship this round and good luck to everybody waiting!

Did anyone else get four schools?? We were surprised because we thought there would only be three on the list

DS was offered 4 year scholarships to Notre Dame, Liberty, and Baylor. Notre Dame is a reach but he's hoping to get in. It's his first choice. Applied REA so we should know something by Christmas. Our fear is that he'll get deferred...then what?! Ugh! Today we're just going to focus on celebrating this accomplishment. We'll worry about the rest tomorrow. Congratulations to all the award winners!

I don't have a lot of experience with this but it seems strange that they would award 4 schools when it specifically says that they will offer up to 3 schools from the list of schools identified in the application. My DS would have liked the fourth school on his list to pop up. Although it would have been tough for him to choose between ND and Georgetown. :)

Received 4-year to Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford; I can't believe I actually got it, considering the only "sport" I had was competitive dance - and even then I had to list it under other! Congrats to all!

Congratulations on receiving the scholarship. Have you been accepted to any of these schools yet? As many posters say, make sure you have a plan B & C.
Thank you, and yes I was just accepted Early Decision to Duke, but I definitely had many backup routes to take just in case.

My DS has known about his scholarship for two weeks, but got a call from his number one school today to tell him the schools. He received a four year to University of North Georgia, Bowling Green State University and University of Dayton. He will be attending UNG, his dream school for several years. He was accepted to UNG and Bowling Green a couple months ago. If he decided to go to Bowling Green or Dayton, those schools provide the difference and make it a full ride. Considering Dayton is $60,000 a year, that's quite a deal. UNG provides in-state tuition to cadets and has a beautiful campus in Dahlonega, Georgia, where it's warm (unlike here in Ohio!) We are so proud and happy our son is achieving his dreams!

Congratulations to the other winners and their parents! Good luck to those still waiting to hear!

I hope it is not a mistake!!

Has anyone received the official scholarship award letter from Cadet Command via the USPS yet?

DS was offered 4 year AROTC scholarship to UVA, Harvard, Cornell.
I'm wondering how the 3 schools are chosen from the 7 schools on the ROTC application.
Is it considered by ROTC and/or the school that the applicant has a good chance of getting in to those schools?
Luckily DS has heard from one of these at Military Appreciation Day -- so the waiting is a little less painful

I could be wrong as I am much more familiar with NROTC. I don't believe they consider the applicants ability to get accepted by the colleges. That's the applicant's job when he decides which schools to apply to (or should be anyway). If he's not accepted at a school(s) the scholarship is awarded to he can try to transfer it to one that accepted him... no guarantees though. Assuming your from Virginia based on your screen name I would bet that UVA is his best chance for acceptance., although without knowing him he may have an excellent chance at the others colleges as well.

ok - thanks. Maybe they just contact AROTC at the colleges on the list and go from that -- just curious! Of the 3, he has visited only UVA and loved it there.
His first choice is WP, however ..... a long wait!!

@MomfromVA I just tried to reply to you privately but the forum wouldnt let me. Do you have to "follow" me first?

Both you and MomfromVA need a certain number of posts first. Don't know if it's 5 or 10 but it should be one of those.
