AROTC 2nd Board Waiters 2015

It is a good question: do the schools know which candidates have received scholarships already?

From my conversations with my PMS at my main school of intent, no thet don't. They said they'd call me when scores are released to tell me if I've made the board or not. They also said I would hear before them either online or through the mail, but where i am neither if those 2 things are reliable.

Has anyone had a phone call or email from a ROO or PMS like BigBillNY's DS recently?

OVO

Yes. My DS received the following email yesterday from his #3 school.

Army ROTC Scholarship Applicants,

As the ROTC scholarship boards are convening and making decisions as to who will or will not be selected off of the second board, I’m reaching out to those of you who I feel are of high quality and have displayed an interest in coming to ??? for ROTC… and you are who we at the ??? Battalion feel would be an asset and great addition to our team for the ??? Class of 2019.

Decision letters from Cadet Command are being sent out now, and whether you are selected or not from the second board, I’d like to know from each of you, if awarded a scholarship to ??? (whether a 3 year or 4 year), will you accept it to ????

Now, I know some of you may not have applied to ??? yet, or if you have, you may be waiting to hear back whether you were accepted or not. Some of you may have been deferred, or you already know if you’ve been accepted, so this may not be an issue for you.

If you win a scholarship, and are accepted to ???, what are your intentions of either “accepting” or “declining” your offer?

I want to sincerely thank you for your time and consideration of ??? as your future home for your college studies, and your possible home for your ROTC career as you pursue your dream of one day becoming an Army Officer!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Best Regards… and

I didn't get an email like that, but I've had numerous conversationd that were asking those same questions. I think that the more you keep in contact with your battalions of intent, the better off you are. No one has ever complained about calling and asking to talk to the ms1 instructor. They're there tl talk to you, so just call if you habe any questions.

"No one has ever complained about calling and asking to talk to the ms1 instructor. They're there tl talk to you, so just call if you habe any questions."
I would not be contacting the MS1 instructor that is not their job. They are busy with the MS1 cadets. If you need to reach out to cadre, contact the ROO.

While I get what you're saying, I have never asked to talk to the ms2 and 3 guys, from my opinion the recruiting guys can tend to tell you what they want to hear, and sometimes the ltc is busy with more important stuff, (as they should be) but the ms1 guy at all my schools also work desk hours in the office, and they have always been the most real with me. I just feel like they experience new cadets the most, so they have been the ones that have gelped me out the most.

Also, they do seem to have quite boring jobs outside of class, so I've had question and answer sessions with them for up to two hours, (which actually made him stay past the closing time at the office,) because he wanted to hear my side of situations. No need to get into the specifics, but they have always seemed to be the most reliable and willing source of help.

"So, at this point, before things are released to candidates, do the local PMS and units know who won a scholarship?"

So in the past I was indirectly notified to check my status. The battalion knew I won a scholarship but they were not allowed to tell me. If you read Clarkson's post I received something similar to that a couple of years ago.

If you would have put Clarkson on your list and you were getting a second round offer you may have gotten an email from some guy telling you to check your status often in the coming days. I would imagine very soon some of you will be getting phone calls and emails from schools you got offers to and schools you may not have gotten offers to. And don't freak out if you don't get those calls and emails. Still one more board to go. Remember that the end goal is to become an Army Officer, so if you don't get the scholarship there are still ways to make that happen.

This was posted on another thread by Clarksonarmy.

Honestly, if not getting the scholarship keeps you from doing rotc, then you aren't the potential officer they're looking for. If they dont give me the money, you better believe that I'm going to fight just as hard to commision as if I did.

Not an expert, but information provided on this forum and elsewhere is that for 3-4 year scholarship winners cadet command will send out official notices via mail, AROTC portal may change after mail, or in some instances before. If applicant is not selected on this round they may hear or see nothing. Will not hear unless approved or denied in 3rd. Every ROO and PMS is different and unique some keep open communiation with applicants, some are too busy to do so. Some may give "hints" of good things to come, some may not. Do not be disappointed if you have not received communications or hints from ROO or PMS, keep going on your plans.
Remember college admissions are separate, applicants need to get acceted to their schools. Again some PMS have some sway at certain colleges and limited to none at others. IF awarded scholarship you have 30 days to choose to accept and school choice (1st round winners not always in the best shape as too early for school acceptances but because usually stellar applicants it works out. For record son was not one.) If accepted then comes the DODMERB process which can be just as nerve wracking and disappointing. Make sure you are ready with your college options if DODMERB goes wrong and no waiver. Remember remedials and waivers are not quickly done, especially with all the SAs and ROTC programs in play. But again just Keep the Faith!

Dodmerb has me more scared than the scholarship. I'm just terrified that they'll find some crazy rare thing that's wrong with me, that I never knew was. At least with the scholarship if you don't get it it's no big deal, dodmerb, you fail you're out.

I wouldn't worry about something you're unaware of coming up at the DODMERB physical. We had more thorough physicals done by our dentist.

Well I've looked at the paper that you fill out, and there's nothing i should check on there other than infrequent headaches, and 1 case of an infection that i had back in 8th grade. (Never really had it checked out, but i think it was a nasal infection, just took some cheap antibiotics and was better in like 3 days...)

What do they do other than that form? I've heard some horror stories about girls and the "internal portion of the exam" but i don't really know what to expect, other than that they makr you fill in the form.

The physical is only a part of the more extensive DODMERB review. Filling out DODMERB part of process is where applicants MUST work with parents guardians on filling out forms properly and accurately. Common sense and expected morals are Do no lie or hide things. But advice from others on forum is do not create issue(s) where there is not one. Try to get clear answer before putting pen to paper. If you think there is a potential issue get medicals together and be ready a plan whether it is trying to be proactive, i.e. tests before asked, or waiting for possible remedial.

So would you write down the "time you were sick in ith grade with an infection that may or may not have been sinusitis" as having sinusitis? Or would you just assume it's no big deal and leave it out.

I haven't had to fill it out for a girl; I have two sons in ROTC. To the best of my recollection, it asks questions that run the gamut from orthopedic problems to anxiety. Look over the list of DODMERB Disqualification codes. For example, one of my sons had knee surgery shortly before he was awarded his scholarship. He completed PT and his doctor noted that he was fully recovered with zero issues. DODMERB simply requested the records related to the case and qualified him.

There is a lot of good basic and even expansive information on this forum, and good to see others in same situation. Do a search on DODMERB and try to narrow your issue; google it also may take you back to forum. BUT remember this is an anonymous forum, do not take as 100% accurate, or official, information you see. It can lead you to authoritative areas, or a contact who may be able to help. But down the road if a problem arises the exlanation that "I saw it on the service academy forum" is not going to be controlling. JMHO.
