Hi everyone. I know there was an earlier thread started for this same thing, but it seems out of date already, so I'm starting a new one to hang out in while we wait. Here we are again... I know we won't know anything for two to three weeks, but since today is supposedly the day the 3rd Army Board meets, I'll be checking in here too often again. Good luck to everyone - my DS has been waiting since the first board - but he seems to have more patience than me.

I'm hanging out with you Snowmom. DS also showing patience. And we have also been waiting since the first board. Regrettably, he did not update his application to show recent accomplishments. He won best in show on an engine rebuild and he now has a 3.75 dual credit GPA. He also made regionals in a FFA leadership competition. He did not think about updating until application closed.

Good. I was beginning to feel alone. :) My DS didn't send in any updates to his application either since it seemed like the only thing that might slightly adjust the needle a little would be a higher ACT/SAT score (if I understood correctly). Although September was a long time ago - things have happened since then that I wish my DS would have sent in - especially keeping a great GPA his senior year. So now it's just waiting...

Here we go again...... best of luck! Patience is so hard and the constant discussions of "Plan B" are exhausting.

SnowMom and ginko, I wouldn't sweat not sending in updates. At this point, unfortunately, it is too late. I was awarded a 3 year, and I have recently thought of things that I should have added to my application in the beginning that just slipped my mind. It possibly could have made an impact for the better on my application scoring, but no need to regret it. Good luck to both of your applicants!

Hi all, been lurking (and learning!) for months...but finally took the plunge and "joined"!

DS #2 is waiting on the 3rd round...passed over on 1st 2 but after we talked to a ROO in early Feb at one of the colleges he was accepted to he pointed out a few weak spots on his App, which we updated, including 2nd SAT score, Fitness test (especially push-ups), choice of Major and school list (there were a few he never even applied to!) We got an email confirmation from CC command that changes were made however NO changes ever showed up on his App except the SAT score and PT test, which were things we were able to upload. I am hoping that things changed on their end and they are looking at the updated info!

DS #1 (7yrs older) went through college on a 4yr AROTC scholarship and it was the best experience for him...he was top Cadet in his class, now on Active Duty...stationed in Hawaii (yes...we got to visit!) and although there are ups and downs he truly loves being a 1st LT and and all the opportunities offered by the Army.

Hoping for the best for #2...very different kids but I know he will also do well, especially with BB helping to guide and mentor!

Good Luck to everyone and hang in there..this waiting is sooo hard!!!

PS. heart is breaking for the families of those involved in the helicopter crash...can't even imagine!! :(

The helicopter crash is extremely sad, and I'm currently on vacation in Destin so it happened right by me. It's good that your son has his older brother to look up to. I was awarded a 3 year AROTC scholarship from the 2nd board, and my older brother is a cadet at USAFA, so he's a mentor to me in a sense, although we will be going our own separate ways in regard to how we commission and the fact that we will be in different branches. The wait is very hard, Id expect that y'all will know by April, but there's no telling exactly. Hopefully all goes as planned for your son, good luck!

    Congratulations on your scholarship!

Although my DH (before we were married) served in the Army Reserves, looong time ago!, the whole Military thing was completely new to me and thankfully DS #1 was on the ball and did most of the work for the scholarship himself (honestly, at first I was not happy about the idea) but after seeing what a difference it made for him we were 100% for #2 to go the same route...but of course there was some push-back from him about "following in his brothers footsteps" ! He eventually "saw the light" but does not have as much self motivation as the 1st born so it has been more of a group effort. :) That's why this forum has been sooo helpful!! I feel like I have a much better handle on everything.

Plan B would be to go for a school based scholarship...but deciding between schools will be hard..Plan C is go to the school DS #1 graduated from...where he has been promised one of their school based scholarships...great school BUT they do not have anything close to the major that #2 wants so he has NO desire to go there! Lots of anxious days ahead...but we'll just be patient and hopeful like everyone else!

His plan B was my plan B as well, I was going to be in ROTC regardless of whether or not I got a national scholarship. A lot of schools offer on campus scholarships. I am the same way with not wanting to be just like my brother either, which is why I'm happy with my choice to do Army ROTC, he and I will both serve together in the future, but I have set my own path for myself. I too did all of the AROTC scholarship application by myself, just like your #1 son.

Congrats JS15000 on your scholarship! My DS also did his own application, and I guess that's why I searched for this forum, so I could learn more about where his life is headed. It's been a great source of information. I think one of the toughest things about waiting for the results on the 3rd board is that he will have to make a final college decision before the DODMerb results - which I realize everyone who doesn't get a national scholarship has to do the same thing. (I don't anticipate any medical issues, but.... it's that timing that's tough.) But there's nothing he can do but keep moving forward with what he wants to do - and that's to be an Army Officer. About a week and half ago, he did get a call from his #2 school - of course they didn't say a word about a scholarship, but they were just encouraging him to go their school. As mamamelton said above, plan "B" discussions are becoming exhausting... "if this, then that," "go ahead and sign up for housing at that school or this school?" So many decisions...and we want the next two weeks to go by quickly, and then life can slow down again.

Thank you! I completely understand, and I, too felt the same pressure to make those decisions even around the 2nd board. I was worried about getting too far along in preparation for one school (housing, etc.) and not being offered a scholarship to that particular school. If memory serves me right I think I may have even been signed up for orientation at my #1 school before I was offered a scholarship, so I completely understand the kinds of pressures that you are facing. I had plan B discussions with my parents, and the whole process was overwhelming at times. Even if I didn't get a national scholarship, I planned on being in ROTC and doing everything I could to get one. Good luck to your son, and keep posting in this forum for questions, it really helps with the waiting process.

Since my DS is pursuing a nursing degree and the likelihood of getting a scholarship is low (100 given?), we worked through the cost scenarios with him and he chose a financially prudent plan B. He is going to attend the school that we can afford without an Army scholarship. It will be a tough four years for us but he should come out of it debt free. He is prepping for ROTC even if he does not receive the scholarship. He talked to an enlistment recruiter and we found out a lot about NG. But he wants to compete for AD. If he gets the scholarship, he will have the pride of knowing that he paid for his own college and he will get to serve. He sees that as a big adventure and a source of personal achievement. Big brother is a midshipman at USNA so there is also a perceived standard he is trying to reach. These kids are so brave. I teach high school and know many lost kids with no direction and no sense of pride. Our kids have already won most battles because they care about something bigger than themselves.

Sorry for updating this without any real news...just chomping at the bit to know where my DS stands. I hope some news may come this week....Plan B and C are ready just in case :).

It took me 25 days for my status to change after the 2nd board, so I would be extremely surprised if the 3rd board waiters started seeing status changes any sooner than the 23rd or so

DD has been accepted to Cadet Program at University of North Georgia. Even has a roommate and company picked out. Waiting for ROTC 3rd Board.

based on 2nd Board timing, it would be the end of next week...but maybe there are fewer files to go through so it will be quicker?? I made my DS give me his sign in info...much easier than waiting for him to check!! :)

DD has been checking every day. Mom is asking me if there is any news of others (especially at UNG) getting awarded scholarships.

    Thanks for responding.
