My son is trying to choose between the Army 4 yr Scholarship and the 3 yr AD....a decision that he'll make here in the next few days. He has been "Qualified" medically by DoDMERB - my question is, if he chooses to accept the 3 yr AD to a private school, will he have to go through the entire DoDMERB process again since his his scholarship doesn't officially kick-in until next year?

DoDMERB examinations are valid for 2 years. He should be okay. :thumb:

Actually, he may have to take it again, depending on the date he took it the 1st time. For example, if he took it 09/01/11 and does not contract until 09/12/13 it is passed the 2 yr deadline.

Many candidates that also apply for SA's do take their DoDMERB in the summer, and do not realize that this will be an issue for the future if they take a 3 yr scholarship. Just be on top of it, if it is an issue come next spring, have the unit request a new DoDMERB to be done.

Thanks for the info. He took the exam in mid-February of this year, so it sounds like he'll be fine even if he takes the 3 year AD and doesn't contract until August 2013.
