ok so ive submitted my certification on the online application, and im going to send emails of all my tests transcripts etc... so will the army send me and email or letter to schedule my interview? whats the next step?

also, for the application do we take the Army PFT or the Presidential fitness challenge?

After you start the application, you will get a reminder letter of what still needs to be completed. After the entire app is completed with all supporting documents - Including the completed and signed ROTC Physical Fitness Assessment Scorecard (Presidential PT) You will get a letter telling you to set up a PMS interview.

Some people will tell you that taking the APFT is a better option, but my philosophy is take what Cadet Command asks you to take, the Presidential Fitness Test (PFT). Be a little patient now...you probably have until October to have everything done and ready for the first board. And most PMS's won't be back from camp and ready to do interviews yet, so plan on knocking out the interview in late August or early September and you should be good.

Do you have to complete the fitness test prior to the PMS interview?

Some people do them the same time
If the PMS/ROO is willing to administer the test
under the belief that the test will have more validity
if you go that route - better be well prepared, no redo's

Thanks for the insight and quick response. I was asked if the CFA test done by SA's could be used by ROTC. My thought is that the tests have some different metrics and timing is different, but thought I would confirm with those on this board. Please let me know. Thanks!

My advice would be to get the test done prior to meeting with PMS. Would you rather have face to face time during your interview or spend 30 minutes sweating outside with a stopwatch? You will be nervous about both the Interview and the PT test. Taking the PT test out of the equation will help your nerves.

Tested before and during

DS had coach administer test to be part of application but was still asked to do unofficial testing as part of the PMS interview. Good thing it was unofficial cause it was 90 with high humidity and the test was after interview in non air conditioned building. Funniest part was the run was through campus, unmarked and unknown to him and apparently most of the others who interviewed. Tester admitted most people get lost on the route :shake:
Expect the next year's process to be just like this, unmarked route where you do your best to figure out how to make it work.

The PMS I interviewed with accepted the CFA.

my DS had already turned in his CFA and it was posted in his record before his PMS interviews (AROTC, NROTC, and AFROTC). From what I remember I think they were all the same....???? JROTC instructor administered the test.

DS did the PFT with a school gym teacher before the interview, but the PMS/ROO wanted a APFT before the interview(guess it gives them an idea how much time to put into the interview?). They did have it set up that he could shower and change inbetween APFT and interview - that was just about a year ago this week....wow, time flies yet stands still:eek:

You will probably receive a notice soon stating you can schedule an interview, as Clarkson said you will probably have to wait until the PMS's return from Camp.

You do not need to have your PFT or for that matter your application totally complete to have the interview. My son actually had his interview before he even sent his application into Cadet Command. As a side note my son had his interview while visiting his older brother who is in ROTC and currently at LDAC. He was meeting with the PMS where he was asked if he wanted the meeting to be his interview. This was during high school spring break, he did not complete his application until June.

It should be interesting next year, my older son will be a MS4 and the younger son a MS1 at the same school.

Regarding the PFT. The PMS requested my son do the APFT, he took the test when we dropped my older son off at school last Fall. Son was a bit nervous, The Master Sargent, and Capt. gave him the test, I think the 6'-6" Mstr Sgt. standing over him made him sweat a bit. The PMS made a not on the application to show that he had taken the full APFT. I would agree with Clarkson though, he had a ROO ask him on the phone why his run time was so slow for one mile, I guess he didn't see the note. I would agree, take the test that Cadet Command asks for, the PFT. It would be a good idea to take an unofficial APFT with your #1 school just to show what you can do, it could help if Campus Scholarships come into play.

A little scary...this is the same scenario as my younger son, whose older brother is now at LDAC. Had AROTC interview with older son's PMS prior to CFA, (NROTC & AFROTC interviews were after CFA...my memory is just now returning....it's been a long couple of years!! )
