AROTC Class of 2014 Branching

Active Duty!

My son said that a few of his classmates did not get active duty like they had hoped for. His best friend who goes to another school also got reserves.

Sounds like a very competitive year.

Congratulations to your son.

From what mbirt posted it looks to be somewhere between 79 and 81. I'm sure someone will post the exact number at some point.

My daughters PMS *guessed* somewhere around 80 from what he was seeing

Daughter got AD and her OML score was 85 but she's also a nurse so she's in a different pool. She was ecstatic.

She did tell me that everybody from her school that wanted AD got it. The top 2 wanted Infantry and got it.

Just got off the phone with my son. He got what he wanted, MI without having to detail and DMG. At least 4 people in his BN got Guard or Reserves, based on their OML score he is guessing that the cutoff was in the 79-81 range FWI. He was a 96, so he figures he must have been top 10% or he would have had to detail to get MI. He is happy, but bummed for his buddies that all of a sudden are job hunting.

Curiosity what was last yrs number compared to this yr?

But what is DMG?

My son just called!!! AD Signal which was his first choice! He said there were:

3 Infantry
1 Armour
1 Reserve
1 Signal

That is all he knew, but everyone got their first choice expect the 1 reserve. That is a female who had an E coming out of LDAC, so he is baffled as to how that happened.

No clue on the OML numbers. My son did ADSO and is thrilled he will have 7 years of Signal.

Good Luck everyone!!!

E's don't guarantee Active Duty. We had a guy with an E that just found out he got guard. LDAC is only about 11% (or whatever the formula breaks down to today)

DD was advised by her PMS that she got AD as a Nurse. She was advised that out of a total of approximately 225 nurses 70 were going Reserves. Not a slam dunk as in the past for nurses. Only half of the MSIV's got AD in her Battalion. Also advised that her Battalion had its first combat arms female cadet who got FA.

Branched AD with 4th choice Ordinance with no EOD. Pretty happy with the active part but I'm not going to lie when I say that I am not ecstatic about my branch.

But such is life, and there's no reason to complain about something that is merit based. Looking forward to commissioning and doing the Army thing for a little while at least.

Also, if anyone has any prior experience with Ordinance stuff please let me know as I know very little.

Edit: I heard secondhand the cut was ~84. Take that for what it is tho.

Going reserves as a nurse isn't a bad deal. You can specialize right away and usually make more money. Although 70 forced reserves seems pretty high with only 15ish forced last year. But I have heard the Army is way overstrength on junior med surg nurses. Also you are worked to death....no OT like the GS nurses and you are often on call. I know plenty of Army nurses who did their 4 and got out because they were burned out.

I've seen quite a few females go FA but keep in mind their job won't be the same as a male going FA

We had two people with 75 oml points get active...

1. Were they participating in one of the ADSO for active duty degree programs? We had one guy below the line get EN that way.

2. Who the hell knows, they adjusted the OMS and we never found out our new scores in my battalion. An 81 was what I had before it was adjusted.

Yes, I got active duty QM. It was my number 2 choice behind Transpo.

Congrats to all! The branch you got will be what you make of it. The real work is only now starting.

Good luck and best wishes
