AROTC Class of 2014 Branching

branch details

I don't think Branch details aren't by OML. I think its by volunteers, then random. I could be wrong though.

In my son's case (and that of his fellow cadet classmates who branch-detailed) the detail was by choice (son's top choice); son wanted MI, but also wanted the "excitement" of a combat branch, and liked what he learned from the people he talked to in armor, so he feels he's got the best of both worlds.

It may also be true that the chances of getting MI are improved with a branch detail, since it is one of the more competitive branches. But then, so are the combat branches which are often the branch details.

In the end, I think each cadet chooses the path that suits them best. Now that the rubber is really about to hit the road - here's wishing all the best of luck and success in your new assignments :thumb:

HMQ

I know Infantry and Armor are the most competitive for AD, but what about National Guard? Would someone who was high enough to get AD Quartermaster be a lock for NG Infantry? Or is that not how it works?

CONGRATS to all of you that have gotten news(AD or NG/AR). Knowing is always better than waiting:thumb:

Scared to death - DS is MSIII - his turn next year to ride this out. Darn - Pima was right, waiting for the scholarship announcements back in Jan. 2011 was childs play compared to this!

Again - congrats to all and have a great finish to your MSIV year!

You should put an asterisk there lol.

*Each cadet chooses the path that they believe suits them the best and then works and hopes the Army gives it to them. Desired results not guaranteed without hard work and motivation.

Actually, it gets even tougher than this. Try a deployment. A little more stressful than even this.

Congrats from me too! DS, an MS1, was watching with great interest yesterday as seniors were getting assignments. Probably the best boost yet to my cries for keeping academics a priority because the guys who had the full picture -- leadership positions, great PT scores AND good grades -- got the branches they wanted. For others, the news was not so good.

I understand the accessions formula is always changing, but it can never hurt to aspire to the best grades you're capable of.

Question -- Cadets who are getting branch assignments right now -- are these cadets who are expecting to commission in DECEMBER or cadets commissioning in MAY?

Deployment will be the ultimate stress. Different from waiting on CC to post and more high stakes. Thank you for reminding us all where this path is climbing. All of our kiddos will probably face at least one - hoping they all have learned what it takes to make it back safely with no losses!!

Notification period

Will they send out more acceptance emails today or are they done with this board? I am an anxious applicant still waiting to hear something and I don't think I want anything more than this. My dad is a Division Commander and he has had a great influence on me to be a soldier.

Both. The national OML comes out for all at the same time regardless of commissioning date.

The only MS IV's not on the list are the ones that are End of camp commissionees or those accessing in another fiscal year.

End of camp commissionees will use this OMLto access when they graduate LDAC.

Thanks. Good to know it happens (basically speaking) all at once.

Your posting this question on the wrong thread. Go to the thread named "AROTC Board News-Scholarship"

Amen to that. Always going to be another step to make. Best wishes for LDAC and rest of MS2.

Yes, I got active duty QM. It was my number 2 choice behind Transpo.

Thats strange, I had an 82 before the point adjustments, yet I did not get AD. I wonder if my branch preferences had any dealings with this or not.

Oh and I never found out my score after the drop. I feel as though there should have been another mandatory counseling session to inform us of this....

For now deployments for 2014,15,16 etc grads are not in the near future unless you are a clairvoyant and know something I don't. :yllol:

Think about it, grads after the Persian Gulf War were probably thinking the same thing and that war didn't happen till 10-12 years later with exception to peacekeeping missions in the Balkans of course.

I know plenty of combat guys from my 2012 class (BOLC, Ranger quald, PL time etc) itching to deploy but no dice. It's smart to anticipate certain events but like in 2007-2008 when they told us we all would deploy once, that might not happen now.

I dont know. I think there are going to be deployments to many new places in the coming years. Africa in particular. I think a lot of non combat branches will be sent. Advising and training in ordinance, supply, management, medical and transportation are deperately needed in many countries. It will be an opportuity to build friendships and stability in some of these countries. The need will always be there.

There are always "deployments" and Africa has been seen as the next stage. However, these deployments are not the same as Iraq or Afghanistan and most likely not for 12-15 months at a time. I have many non combat friends who have done tours with humanitarian and stabilization missions (A huge part of the reserve mission actually which is almost all non-combat troops). Currently we have troops in 150ish countries so this is nothing new.

I was addressing the full on war deployments, after seeing the hesitation to even mess with Syria I could see the next one not being for a while.
