AROTC Class of 2015

My DS does not graduate until December 2015, as he needs an extra semester (engineering major.) As such he will be a semester behind his fellow MS 4's and will hang around as a MS 4.5 for a semester. I don't have a clue how the OML/Active vs. Reserve/Branching works for cadets like him. I assume they have a separate list or process for them? I certainly hope they don't just get what's left over from the May graduates...

OK, I looked it up and here are the branches that are included in the Special Branching Program.

Signal
Adjutant General
Finance
Quartermaster
Air Defense Artillery
Chem Corps
Ordnance/EOD
Engineer

Sorry for the misinformation in my previous post.

There are too many majors to list, here is a link that includes the branches and the majors that are required.

No separate system. He'll assess with the MS4's that will graduate the May after him. He'll be on their OML as well, rather than that of his classmates.

I thought the first AROTC boards were Oct 20th for this year? If not, when were the first ones?

So if a cadet graduates in dec, does that mean he won't commission till the May after at the earliest? So at least 6 months before the earliest BOLC?

Shoeless, this thread is not about scholarships. It's about MS4 cadets who are getting ready to find out their branches and components.

Cajun,
My DS's school has two commissioning ceremonies each year. (Dec and May)...The December grads will find out their component/Branch in November, and potentially get to BOLC in the Spring, while their May classmates are still in school.
I'm sure the Army is happy to have these cadets fill vacancies that may occur in the Spring BOLC classes.

Are you referring to cadets that are on a 4.5 year program, or a cadet that graduates early in Dec.

No. Commissioning and accessions are separate. The accessions packets are done in the fall. December commissionees and May commissionees will find out their component and branch at the same time. Whatever time he completes his accessions packet will determine what OML he is on and what year group he is actually accessing with. So, he's now competing against the current MS4's, not those that were commissioned in May.

Hopefully this makes more sense.

I don't communicate with DS often and when I do it sounds like code to me. I did not realize all the possible different parts may be announced at different time frames. When we last spoke a week ago I asked have you heard anything about the OML time frame. He said we are hearing between Oct 15 and Nov. 15, whatever that is suppose to mean. Reading this I see that could just mean the NG-Reserve/AD list. Geeze could be a long wait?

There shouldn't be too many different parts at different times. Component and Branch should be announced at the same time, and the tentative date my PMS told me was November 13th. Just as we've seen in the past, it is subject to change. BOLC dates are a different beast and come later, and possibly at different times depending on if you are a May or December grad, or end of camp commissionee.

Looking back at my previous posts, I'm not sure if I was 100% clear and understandable for parents. Think of it in terms of year groups. Right now, the next group of cadets that will commission are Year Group 15. Cadets in this year group might commission in December 2014, May 2015, post-CLC, sometime during next summer. If your son or daughter is currently a senior and MS4, but will stay an extra semester (for whatever reason) and commission in December 2015, they will be in YG16. Year Group 15 completed their accessions packets by early September. YG16 will do the same, but in September 2015. Hopefully this makes more sense. Accessions process only happens once per year, it just depends on your expected graduation date that affects what year group you will fall into and when you will complete your accessions packet. This is what the 104-R's are for, to give the army an idea of which YG to forecast you in. I don't claim to be an expert on any of this, so if it is incorrect, hopefully one of the resident ROO's, PMS's, or HRA's can correct it.

Just to throw another curveball for those graduating with mission set 16 (so those graduating Dec. 2015-end of Sept. 2016) supposedly CC will be letting these kids know their component upon returning from CLC after this summer. So essentially they will find out if they're Active/Reserve/Gaurd next September. They won't find out branches then though. Should be interesting to see if CC follows through on this. It will be good for those of us right around the cutoff so we know whether we need to be looking for civilian jobs or not.

Here's an update that our BN just received. The board results are complete and have been forwarded to the CSA (Chief of Staff) for final approval. We were told that the component/branch/OML results should arrive at each brigade some time next week. Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting this. We all hope for good news, sooner rather than later.

General question: Would anyone know when Cadets will find out their assignments (for those going AD) if they put in an ADSO?? Will it be released once Components/Branches are released? Thanks.

We all find out at the same time! You should be told also whether they applied your ADSO or not... as in, if you did well enough on the OML to not need your ADSO to get the branch you wanted, it will not be applied.

This depends on what your asking.

Are you asking about branches, or Duty Assignments that you signed an ADSO for?

If your asking about Duty Assignments, you will not find out at the same time as the branching, it will come later. Depending on what you branch, you may not find out until after you complete BOLC and any follow up training.
