AROTC Guidance Counselor Feedback

I honestly have no idea! I'd have to ask her. To be honest I'm surprised she got to it because she's not technically working yet

Most school administrators are salaried and have off-season responsibilities. The month before school starts, they are setting up their year plans (planning college recruiter visits, looking for Seniors who haven't taken their SAT/ACT test yet to follow up, etc.). They are getting requests from the Principal and district officials, so the email from CC was just another item in the inbox.

They work hard so Seniors and families are prepared for the applications rush.

It's not just that - don't forget that these same counselors are responsible for sending graduated seniors on their way (ie: finalizing and sending transcripts). I don't know about you, but at a grade of 500+ kids split across 2 counselors ... that's quite a handful.

All I can say is, finish the application. Don't rush through it just to get it completed, but don't do it too slowly - otherwise your place will drop in the queue.

... in the mean time, just continue working on your fitness.

Change emails

Does anyone know if you change the original guidance counselor email to another one that will actually respond and help you (frustrated...) will CC automatically send an email to the updated address? I've had such issues getting my DS guidance counselor to respond (over 2 weeks!) that I have gone around her to the head of the department. She asked for the email to be sent to her so I updated the application with a new contact name and email. I just hope this works....

BTW I'm a new poster but have been "creeping" on the forums for months. Thank you so much for all the helpful information.

Welcome!

Since the application process is different this year, I don't know if anyone will know off the top of their head. What I would do is log in to the application and send an email to CC about it. I believe it was Strength & Honor that has posted about having to email CC through the application portal, and they said they got a response (it seemed like it didn't take too long).

Hope that helps!

Thank you!! I did that so I am hoping we get a response. The stress of this process is a little overwhelming......

I agree. Before we found out about all of the procedural changes that have taken place this year, I felt like there was no rush and that we were in good shape. But, now that we've found out about all these changes, and not knowing how long a particular step in the process is going to take (and that it could be holding up the interview), we're a bit stressed.

This week has been CRAZY busy for DS. We finally had to have him back off the ROTC application for a few days just to give him a chance to breathe. We're shooting for getting everything in by the end of this weekend (fingers crossed).

Good luck!! I just went into the portal and it looks like we are clear for an interview. At least there was a message that said to call one of these schools for an interview...:)

However, his first school of choice is not on that list so now we have to contact his High School Point of Contact (no clue who that is!!) before we change the interview location. Stress is not even the word for it all! :)

The process is what it is. Stress is something you put on yourself usually when dealing with circumstances beyond your control. If you just take it one step at a time and stay on top of it, focusing on what YOU can control, you'll be fine and there will be no need to get stressed. Just a friendly reminder! :thumb:

You are so right, Kinnem. I tend to be a bit of a control freak (very detail-oriented & try to do my research so I have no surprises). So, when I feel as though I can't control something after I've done all my research, I do tend to get a bit stressed. I just keep trying to remind myself of two things: the Serenity Prayer, and the saying, "How do you eat an elephant....?".

Thanks for the friendly reminder!

Slow and steady....we are attacking a piece at a time. PFT next Tuesday, CFA next Thursday, 2 out of 5 college apps done, USMA app started, nomination sources looked up and ready to start those apps, pile of forms to take to guidance, and the really bad part....around 8 essays to write! Also, because DS wants to play his sport in college, he needs to send emails to 6 coaches with his fall schedule of games....Just have to keep an eye on the prize!

Slow and steady....take a deep breath....easier said than done but I'm getting there now that my DS has been scheduled for his interview.
