My son recently received a 4-yr AROTC Campus Based Scholarship. I an trying to understand when he would contract and incur a commitment. Would he have the opportunity to "try it" so to speak during his first year? My older son is non-scholarship AFROTC cadet and I am a bit more familiar with that process. Any input would be appreciated. My apologies if this question was answered in another thread.

The terms of campus-based scholarships are exactly the same as national scholarships, with the exception of the location being just that battalion (campuses offered within that battalion being the choice of the PMS).

So yes, he would have until the first day of his sophomore year to walk away from the military obligation.

Congrats from the parent of another 4-year campus-based scholarship recipient (now an MS3).
