    Hi,

I have a meeting with my ROO tomorrow. It is scheduled as an "Interview," but I have not submitted any forms or any scholarship application. It is my second meeting with him.

This can't be a scholarship interview, can it?

    Probably not.
Scholarship interviews are done by the PMS and scheduled after you have started the application process

Thanks. I sure hope it isn't, I'm not prepared.

You should still treat it as a serious meeting and a chance to make a positive first impression on a member of your cadre. Dress casually but conservatively. Bring a list of questions. Take notes and listen.

I believe that it was the ROO who pushed for my DS 's three year campus based scholarship.

Thanks. I will definitely treat it professionally, I just don't think I have prepped quite enough for a scholarship interview at this point.

You should be prepared to answer why you want to be an Army Officer. Hint: it should not be to have your college tuition paid.

Really? That's weird, because the ROO has already set up the DODMERB and now I have to schedule it. Could it possibly be due to my joining late?

That is why it is different. Have you started participating in ROTC yet?

No, not yet. Starting next semester, although I may be able to do PT with the battalion this semester.

Sounds great! That is the best way to start and it sounds like they are already evaluating you for a campus based scholarship for down the road, that is exciting.

    +1 @Dckc88
I agree. The ROO can have a lot of influence on how the campus based AROTC scholarships are allocated.

    Good luck!

Quick question, what is a campus based scholarship?

This applies to Army ROTC. Most Army ROTC 4 year and 3 year scholarships are given to High School seniors. These applications are reviewed by several NATIONAL boards and awarded accordingly.
You can still enroll as a college student as an MS-I in AROTC and compete for a 3 or 2 year scholarship that is awarded by the Battalion cadre. THAT is a campus based scholarship.

There are fewer of these and you don't HAVE to have a scholarship to commission. You DO have to have a CONTRACT before your MS-III year to commission. A contract pays only a stipend, where a scholarship typically pays tuition books and the stipend.

Ah, okay, thanks. Yes, he has mentioned that. I would be competing for a 2 year scholarship.

Campus based scholarships are awarded by the school, national scholarships are awarded via the 3 boards that take place in Kentucky in Oct., Feb., and April. Good luck
