AROTC Scholarship January Boards - Post if your status has changed

My DS awarded scholarship to his 4th choice, Rutgers. It will be interesting to see if the "alphabetical theory" holds true; his other top choices begin with "U" (University of...) and "S". He got accepted to his 1st choice school so I hope the transfer option will work...although it would be for a private school OOS and much more $.

Stats are...
GPA: 3.3
SAT: Math 650, Reading 640, Writing 630
ACT: 28
Editor in chief of school newspaper, paid reporter for online publication (working 20 hrs/week)
Soccer and basketball - competitive town league (not varsity)
Private boxing training

I have to ask again, because I am totally confused. Aren't AROTC scholarships tied to the school? If so, they only have an allotted number of scholarships to offer, and if CC knows this, wouldn't they only offer 1, because by offering multiple scholarships they are tieing up the pot of money.

I also say that because many cadets would hold onto the scholarship for a couple of reasons.
1. Applied to an SA, they won't be finding out for about 6 more weeks.
2. Many recipients have yet to hear from all of their schools regarding admittance.

Either scenario a lot of the money would not go back in the pot because it would be past the last board in March.

Pima -- Take a look at the thread from the October boards and you'll see that many scholarship recipients received letters with multiple schools listed and they could choose to accept for 1 of those schools. I think this info may have even been visible on the status page then...but it looks like this time around, we're all only seeing 1 school listed. Not sure if the letters will include more options.

If someone was awarded (In their letter) to more than one school, they only have 30 days to accept ONE of them. I'd think by March 5 or 6th, Cadet Command would then have a list of the scholarships NOT taken to each school and would be able to offer those in the 3rd boards......

I am curious, I always thought they only award to 1 school, do they actually award to multiple schools.

That would be a huge head ache if they did because now you actually could have even fewer people getting a scholarship. Theoretically, if someone got 5 awards, that would take away from 4 other people

OBTW congrats to all the recipients.

AROTC gives you a time limit to choose which college you want your scholarship to- not sure but around 45 days. If one was awarded multiple scholarships, they would be back on the table for the next board.

I was awarded a scholarship to George mason university, unfortunately I've already been accepted to Virginia tech early decision. Hopefully the status page only lists one college?

HopefulMom13..........you need to change your user name at this time...... No longer "Hopeful":shake:

Announced at first check?

First, congrats to all recipients!

Did all learn of scholarship receipt with their first check this morning? Or did anyone get the great news upon checking a second, third or ...time?

I want to be optimistic, but seems since the release was pending for a few days they would be posted at the same time.

Military wife here, so I very much understand that anything can happen for reasons unknown.

We checked at 7:30 before leaving for school... No Change

When I got to work at 8 am, logged on and CHANGED.

One very proud parent!

DS has been awarded scholarship!
3.7 unweighted
29 ACT
Varsity XC/track and marksmanship
JROTC regimental staff/boys state/NHS/volunteer staff at National Youth Leadership Training Camp
Now on to DODMERB!

Go Rams!

DS received 2nd choice, RUTGERS, as first choice was The Citadel.

GPA...3.7 All AP course load
Varsity letter in lacrosse and swimming
Eagle Scout, Boys State and West Point SLS

So, he has received AROTC and NROTC to Rutgers. NROTC is a brand new unit but he loved AROTC and the brass. We'll see.

Now , I also heard that when the letters come out, they will tell you whether there are several options for schools. The portal will only show you one option. Is there any truth to that, anyone?

Hey all.

Got a scholarship. To a school I'm not going to, second choice. Eastern Illinois. I needed University of Illinois

3.9 GPA. All honors.
29 ACT
Varsity Letterman basketball
Drum Major
Class President
Student Council President
Club Founder
NHS
Illinois State Scholar

This is really disappointing to me. I can't use this scholarship because I'm not going here. Hope you all have a better day than me.

Zack

Received 4 year-type 2 AFROTC scholarship but there's no mention of a specific school. Still awaiting acceptance to safety and reach colleges. Received a call from detachment of my 1st choice that they notified admissions of this but was not chosen for early acceptance.

Zack - not so fast. Your letter, when received next week may show UI. If not, you need to work on getting a transfer.......... Other's will know more about that here on the forum.

Do NOT turn down this award without talking to the ROTC unit at UI

This Thread is about ARMY ROTC. Guess the portal for AFROTC posted different info.

Got It!

Woke up early for no good reason and checked the portal...DS got an offer for his first choice school!!!! Very proud of him. Really hard not pulling him out of school for the day to share the good news!

Good luck to others.

Also, if you request a transfer talk to admissions at UI. It seems as though different institutions have relationships between and xROTC and admissions, but in DS #1's case admissions went to bat big time for him at Big 10 U, even as an out of stater.

I just emailed my ROTC contact explaining this. I hope you are right about the letter. Thanks for your support.

DS got a scholarship to his 4th choice school, but first alphabetically so there might be something to that theory. He is very excited!! He would be happy to go to any of his top 5 choices of school. He was awarded the scholarship to Appalachian State University. It will be interesting to see what comes in the letter on Monday. We could not be more proud of him!

Congrats to everyone who has heard and hang in there to those that haven't yet heard. This was my DS's second board. He was passed over first board, so we know how hard the wait can be. I swear this grueling waiting is part of the training process.

Take this for what it's worth...but if this year's notification process is the same as last year...keep the faith, your letter will arrive in the next couple of days...and ALL the schools that AROTC is offering a scholarship to will be listed in the letter...last year they only listed one in the portal notification for my DS and then three days later...voila...the letter listing 4 schools came!!! And in the interim of those three days at least one of the other schools ROOs called and congratulated DS! I don't know why they only listed one on the portal...maybe a computer program constraint or something, but the letter contained the longer list! So hang on...the letters are on their way!!!
