February 1st

After getting the ROTC notification, we logged onto the school where he received the scholarship. We happened to notice that TODAY is the deadline to accept or decline the merit scholarship he got there. So, he accepted it, of course. We are still not sure if he will go there or to his 1st choice school. But as of right now, he has a full-ride: tuition, books, stipend, room & board. Not too shabby.

Everyone should stay on top of the merit-based scholarship deadlines. Today is a big one at many schools. It's also a big day for final applications.

My DS got good news on the portal. Top choice. Thanks so much for all of the advice and information. This is such a great forum. Thanks to all of you that will serve our country. All that you have done to get this far should be commended.
3.7 unweighted
29 act (32 science/math)

Two varsity sports (6 letters)

Congrats to all and hang in there! This waiting is crazy!

For those of you who received scholarships to your top choice, was this school also first in alphabetical order compared to the other schools you listed on your application? Just trying to determine if we still have hope that my son's top choice might still appear on his letter!

For us, yes, his 1st choice was also 1st alphabetically.

Wow! The Christmas tree is certainly lit! Congratulations to everyone. I hope the schools listed in your letters are your hearts desire. If not, accept the scholarship anyway, even if you don't plan to attend that school. You need to accept it in order to transfer it later... if you are able to transfer it. Some folks will be faced with hard decisions.

Is there ANYONE whose portal shows anything other than the first alphabetical school?

Does anyone know if the ROTC ROO from my 3rd choice school (the school awarded on the portal today) can see in "their side" of the portal if my DS got awards to the 1st & 2nd choice school also?

Just curious because DS got email today from this 3rd choice school inquiring if he had been accepted to his 1st choice school and if he got similar scholarships to them both, which school would he then consider going to........Both schools are OOS and close in cost.

My DS 2nd choice school is higher in the alphabet than my DS 3rd choice school....but it is possible that he didn't get awarded 2nd choice.

Still hopeful that 1st choice (which is last in the alphabet is in the letter)

Another theory could be......... which rank applicant was awarded scholarship.

What I mean by that is let's say Univ Colorado has 6 available scholarships and the applicant gets the 5 slot out of the 6 available.

But at University of Florida the applicant falls into the 3 slot of the maybe... 5 available.

The portal MAY than post the UF award because it's the one awarded higher in the tiers.

Who knows really......I'll post the letter results in that new thread once they come....

Smiling all day today.

The ROO already knows but is not supposed to reveal anything that you don't already know. At least not yet. Sometime next week they will be allowed to talk to you about the whole picture.

My son said today that the Cadet Command Portal stated that he received a scholarship to his first choice.

GPA: 4.0
SAT: 1280 CR & Math
Officer of the math honor scociety
5 letters in fooball and wrestling, football captain
All AP classes junior and senior year

My DS's portal just changed this morning. He was offered a scholarship to his first choice, Purdue. So happy for him!

Do you belive all offers have been posted or will they continue to post for a few days?

More reading of the tea leaves and entrails. Let say they were all alphabetical... that tells you nothing about whether or not there will be multiple schools listed in your letter. You still need to wait for the letter to see what's in it.

Patience. As an officer you'll need to learn to either await the information you need before making a decision, or be prepared to make a decision based on the information in hand. I know this feels like a life or death decision, but its not. Time to take a deep breath and wait a few days for the letter - beginning your preparation and education as an officer. Calmness under stress is probably one of the most important attributes you can develop. In the meantime you can plot your plans for what you will do depending on the contents of the letter.

Of course Zack, this isn't meant particularly for you but for all who attempting to read the entrails. I must admit its a great game though, but just a game. you must have better things to do. :thumb:

AROTC Scholarship

DS was awarded Arotc scholarship today to his first choice school.

GPA-3.5 at top prep school
2040 SAT
AP classes
Varsity Athlete- multi-sport
Boys' State
Boys Nation Senator
Nrotc scholarship recipient
USNA candidate
USMA candidate
USMMA LOA

I have to ask again, because I am totally confused. Aren't AROTC scholarships tied to the school? If so, they only have an allotted number of scholarships to offer, and if CC knows this, wouldn't they only offer 1, because by offering multiple scholarships they are tieing up the pot of money.

I also say that because many cadets would hold onto the scholarship for a couple of reasons.
1. Applied to an SA, they won't be finding out for about 6 more weeks.
2. Many recipients have yet to hear from all of their schools regarding admittance.

Either scenario a lot of the money would not go back in the pot because it would be past the last board in March.

Until just the past 1 1/2 years it was not uncommon fo an applicant to receive scholarships to as many as 5 schools. Both my sons received 5 schools.

You are right, the scholarship is tied to the school but there is really not any dollars tied up because the scholarship awardee has only 30 days fron the date of the letter to accept or decline the offer. Plenty of time for those slots to be available for the next board.

Not really sure the reasoning behind awarding fewer schools, unless they are trying to manage the distribution of scholarships better.

To be honest, the schools listed on the status page are most likely random.

Others are correct, the official letter will sometimes include 1 or 2 more schools.

To everyone, try not to read to much into how the schools are listed. You could spend the whole weekend trying to figure it out. There are just to many scenarios. The school listed could easily be the highest school that you will receive. Enjoy the weekend, the letters will arrive soon.

Also, the letters will let you know if the scholarship is a 4 year or a 3 year.
