AROTC scholarships posted

Here's a question. Do status changes occur school by school? Is there a possibility of seeing an offer from another school pop up on the status page?

No, for a lack of a longer explanation, What you see is what you get.

Scholarships are given by Cadet Command, not by the schools. Only the school/schools they list on the status page are what the offer is for.

Got the status change and son awarded scholarship to Penn State. That was second choice, but son has committed to play lacrosse at Christopher Newport. What are the odds that he could transfer the scholarship to CNU? It is less expensive than Penn State, but I guess it depends on whether they have a slot, correct? Gotta make some calls tomorrow morning!
Congrats to all who are receiving the good news!

Now that you mention the school involved, you might want to ask some detailed questions regarding scheduling of ROTC classes and labs as CNU is not a host campus. The time management will be critical to making this work. It can be done, but it will take a large committment.

The problem with ROTC at Christopher Newport is that you start out as a Captain, work your tail off for four years, and end up a Second Lieutenant

I know you said this is just the beginning of the notifications but what determines who is notified when? When will we know when all notifications are sent out?

I believe there is a very large board with all the names of those receiving scholarships. At one time they let about 10 hamsters loose on the board, wherever the hamster stops, those are the ones that get notified, then they do it all over again.

I didn't mean to make light out of the stressful waiting game, but I think that would as good an explanation as any. Nobody here has ever been able to come close to figuring out how they release the results. Last year one thread spent days trying to figure it out to no avail, just when somebody thought they had it something happened to crush that idea.

As far as knowing anything about how long or when they stop, nobody can tell. It seems they have been doing things a lot different this year then last year and even different then the last board. The best you can do is ride the wave, as tough as that may seem right now.

Okay thank you for your help! I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it but I guess everyone is in the same boat. I guess I'll just keep waiting and see what happens. Again, thank you for your help

Just checked the page. I've received a 4 year scholarship to the Citadel. I don't think DODMERB will be an issue, I passed through MEPS with no problems whatsoever. It feels awesome to finally be on the road to realizing my dream of becoming a U.S. Army Officer (preferably in the Infantry, but we'll see how the OML goes). Congratulations to all other recipients!

My DS was awarded a scholarship for Michigan State University!! No mention of the length of the scholarship. We are trying not to get too excited as we must get through the DodMERB, and I've seen on some other posts people getting DQ'd for what seems to an outsider minor or ancient medical issues. Any thoughts? (I'm new to the posting community so any insight would be greatly appreciated.)

I got a scholarship to my first choice UCLA, but they denied me. I plan to call them regarding the issue. But my question is about my second choice, I put down which was UC Davis. I got into Uc Davis but I didn't get a ROTC scholarship there, I assume because it wasn't my first choice. But now can I transfer it if UCLA wont let me in?

3yr or 4yr?

I just saw that I got a scholarship to Gonzaga. One of the previous post stated that someone was just offered a 4yr to Citadel. Was stating that it was a 4yr an assumption or does the status page only specifically state the amount if its a 3yr?

Congrats everyone! And good luck to those still waiting!

The best thing you can do with Dodmerb is be honest when filling out the medical history. If you check any of the boxes yes you will be sent to a page that will let you explain and it will ask you questions to answer. Have as much information ready for anything that you might check yes. You can google the medical history form and look it over, that way you can be prepared when you sit down to fiil out the official form. If you feel you need any back up info from your doctor get it before you go for your physical in case they want to see it, if they don't ask for it at least you'll be ready if they ask for a remedial.

We thought my younger son owuld be DQ'd and need a waiver because he had an Avulsion Fracture of his hip 1 1/2 years before he had the Dodmerb physical. Before the physical we went back to the doctor and got a letter from her stating he was fit for full activity and rigorous military training. When he filled out the Medical history form he checked the box about fractures and then explained the injury using all the correct dates, he listed all the activities he had done since the fracture in detail. My son took all this to the physical with him. The doctor asked him about the hip, he showed him the information he had. We are a bit suprised when 3 weeks later he received the letter that he was Qualified.

The best you can do is be proactive and detailed, every case is different, just be ready.

Unless he called and talked to the ROTC ROO at the Citadel and they told him it was a 4 year then I would think that it was an assumption on his part.

You can try and call Gonzaga and ask them which scholarship you were awarded, they know but whether they will tell you until it is official is another thing. Remember, nothing is official until you receive the letter in the mail.

Ok. Thank you very much for your response. I will just be patient then and wait.

portal vs letter

FYI...When my DD's portal changed in February, it listed only one school. However, when the letter came in the mail, it listed 3 schools with various 3 and 4 year scholarship choices.

So before you start making phone calls and panicking about transfers, I would recommend waiting to get the letter in the mail to see exactly what you got. I think the letter was approximately 1 week after the portal update.

GoldenLion, was the original update for the first choice school and the additional on the letter for lower choice schools? My DS's status page indicates he has an offer to his second choice school (in-state) but he really wants an offer to his first choice (OOS). Based on your post, I'm not sure if that means that he was passed over by his first choice and therefore waiting for the letter may not help.

Also does anyone know if you can transfer the value of an in-state scholarship to the out-of-state school (assuming there is willingness and room at the OOS). He already has a partial scholarship to the OOS school and would be happy to just get a value equivalent of the in-state scholarship for the OOS.

Uh Oh

Should I be worried my page has not updated yet? :(

Hang in there! I don't think there is any explanation as to the order of the notifications. It seems many have tried to figure it out, but no one has succeeded. So, stay strong and just keep checking. Wishing all the best for you!!

Good idea to call the Bruin Battalion.. also email them -- both ROO and PMS. I think their emails are on the Battalion website. The PMS splits time between UCLA and Cal St. Northridge (actually the Northridge unit is much larger).

At least last year, the PMS had an excellent relationship with Admissions, and there is a possiblity that the AROTC scholarship award could turn things in your favor either informally, or in UCLA's formal appeals process.

I don't see why the 8th Brigade (all the Battalions on the West Coast) Commander wouldn't consider transferring your Award from one UC to another, unless UCD is oversubscribed at the moment and UCLA is not. The costs are the same.

Last year the notifications out of the 3rd Board did not go out in one simultaneous batch. They went out in lots of mini batches over at least two days, possible two and a half.

I got the feeling that there were employees at Cadet Command typing away furiously and every few hours hit the "post" button to update the system.
