AROTC "winners"

My son just heard from both Navy and Army today. Received four year awards from both. Top school from the Navy and top three from the Army. Not a bad day!

Winner

Hello all,

Just wanted to post that I received a 4-year scholarship to all my first year schools. Thanks to all for the help and support. Good luck to everyone else!

Thanks,
DV

Congrats to all scholarship winners so far. The wait is horrible and yes, sometimes all for nothing(scholarship wise anyway) but hold on - the path to commission is a long crazy wild ride and this is only the first step and really only boils down to how you're gonna pay for it:wink:

Good luck to all and take care!

Could all the awardees please post the first letter of their last name? Perhaps they're going alphabetically so far.

They do not post the results alphabetically.

They most likely posted the results all at one time, check again tomorrow but if you see no change then you have been rolled over to the second board.

Today my DS received 4 year offers from Baylor, Kentucky, and USC(Univ of So Cal). Great news!

Congrats to all. Saw one post about Navy. Does that mean the Navy's second board review happened and they made some further awards?

Army 4-year ROTC Scholarship

I just checked my status and I received a three or four year ROTC Scholarship too my top 3 schools.

Navy has had at least 3 boards now, as this is now the 3rd notice by awardees from different dates. There boards are very frequent now.

What were his stats, if I may ask?

He has a 3.93 UW and 4.79 W GPA on the 4.0 scale. 34 math and 29 English ACT. He is ranked first in his very small senior class. His school does not offer AP classes, but they offer an all-honors curriculum. All graduates typically go to college from this college-prep school. Captain of 3 different varsity sports, selected for All-State baseball team, Boys State, school Leadership Committee, Boy Scout SPL (still working on his Eagle Scout Rank), numerous leadership awards at school, etc.

For last year's AROTC boards, all of the results came out on one day. (That doesn't necessarily mean that is how they will do it this year).

For the first board last year, we were told that every scholarship awardee was given 4-year scholarships to their top 3 school choices (unless the school's PMS marked that they did not think you would be admissible to their college), regardless of school cost. It certainly appears that they may have done the same thing this year. They did not offer more than 3 school choices to scholarship winners. As the 2nd and 3rd boards happened, then they started offering 3 or 4 year scholarships to 1-3 schools. Some schools must have met their "quotas" for the max scholarships that Cadet Command was going to award to them and closed those schools out for future scholarship winners and moved down their list to other schools that still had scholarships left to award.

When the award letter shows up, how long does my DS have before he needs to decide between his awarded schools? One school which he was accepted to is a little bit of a reach and we won't know if he is accepted till February.

I feel like you just gave me PTSD from this time last yr.
Yes, your acceptance is due MONTHS before you get into the school...

I remember like yesterday a few ole' timer-posters walking me off the ledge through Private Messages last year as DS wanted to quickly accept a sure-thing college AROTC scholarship (to a school he didnt love) instead of waiting it out for his dream school. uugghhhh. Me trying to talk him into waiting...luckily he contacted the dream school and though he didnt apply early admission, they accepted him early so he could match his scholarship there. but it was a harrowing nerve wracking process that literally ended hours before the deadline.

He will have 30 days to accept or decline from the date of the letter sent.

Yes, that is one of the downsides of getting the scholarship early; you have to decide which school to select without knowing if you have even been selected into the schools........

My status changed from Boarded to Winner! 4 year scholarship to Southern Methodist University, University of Oregon, or Oklahoma State University! What a good day! :)

Winner

My DS's portal changed to winner as well. Four year to top three schools:
Washington University, Saint Louis University, and the University of Iowa. :thumb:

Now the hard part: getting accepted to Wash U!

Read my previous post, feel free to Pm me (DS at WashU). there is also a great WashU cadet who checks these boards occasionally (not my DS). If you do a search you can figure out who he is and ask him questions.

Good Luck!
