AROTC "winners"

I agree. This waiting thing is gonna be hard, good luck guys. On another note, congratulations to those who have won!

Waiting...

I'm still showing "Boarded" as well. No worries though. I hope you all get the news you're wanting to hear. Best of luck!

Think April

My son's status still says "Boarded" too. Just remember to keep thinking that you won't know for sure until April, so then you keep moving forward with other plans to pay for college. As so many people on this forum have said, the ROTC scholarship is all about a way to pay for college, but if you're really in this to be an officer in the Army, keep proceeding as though you may not get this particular scholarship. I know it's tough to wait, but keep making other plans to pay for college and join ROTC anyway.

My son was already accepted at his top two schools and if he doesn't get the ROTC scholarship, he'll definitely go to one of those schools anyway and join ROTC and figure out a way to pay for it himself. He is determined even if he doesn't get the scholarship. Hang in there.

And P.S. - congratulations to all who received a scholarship in this first round!!

For all of those waiting please don't get discouraged. The 1st board is usually very small. Also, look at the silver lining in this. If you win on the 2nd or 3rd board you will more than likely know if you were accepted into your college choices so you won;t have the stress some of these 1st winners are going though currently.

My DS was awarded on the last board (his stats were just OK) and we were days away from sending in deposits for another school. Get all your back up plans in place and then settle in for the wait.

Congrats to all!

I do want to remind everyone while they go through the process that ROTC scholarships are insanely competitive ....overall it is @18% of candidates that receive a scholarship.

While you are on the ride, remember to overcome the desire to ask for stats. The fact is, as Jcleppe stated, school choices are going to be a player in the equation.

That also does not include the other factors, such as ECs. They call it the Whole Candidate Score (WCS) for a reason. They don't want the kid that has no leadership, athletics or volunteer hours, but valedictorian any faster than they want the kid that has all of that, but a 24 ACT. They want the kid that balances it all.

Just saying asking for stats does not do you any good because there are too many moving parts that you can't figure out on how it impacts the WCS.

Just move on and get your college apps in, and discuss how financially you will make it work if you need the scholarship to attend. There is a sticky on this forum that also discusses perks for ROTC cadets, scholarship or not, take the time to look at those too.

Also remember that not getting awarded may mean something as simple as they want to see more candidates before they make the decision because right now you are on the cusp for colleges.

Start gathering medical records

To those of you notified you earned your scholarship CONGRATS. Start gathering your medical records. Shortly you will be directed to make appointments for your medical and vision screening. DoDMERB will determine if you are medically qualified, if not you get DQ'd and then the commissioning source will decide if they will waive your disqualifing condition. Be prepared... for some this step is the end of the line and for some this is a big hurdle to overcome. Good luck!!!

This is all new to me and interesting and a little confusing to see it play out. My DS did not go the ROTC scholarship route because he joined guard his Senior year of HS and therefore is SMP. His reasoning was he wanted the experience under his belt. Not sure how he would play itg now but th experince has definitely worked in his favor hands on exercise wise. He was required to contract between his Sophomore and Junior year and chose Army.

I see how this process could be nerve racking to say the least. Congrats to those that have received good news and hang in there, good luck to those waiting to hear. As said above I can definitely see the advantage to know college acceptance first. I am sure there is still GOOD News awaiting many :)

Congrats to all who were awarded scholarships in the 1st board! We continue to hold fast. would anyone know what the process is to update your test scores if my Son scores higher on a subsequent test? and is there a way to adjust the priority of your College list?

Thank you GA Mom. Really worked hard all summer long with my DS and he completed both AROTC /NROTC app's before August. He was also fortunate to land his PMS interview at one of his top schools. Really thought he might get the "nod" during this period but we'll just remain patient/hopeful. He's also been accepted to all but one of the schools on his list (one pending). He shot out of the proverbial cannon this summer. He even took the SAT again this Oct. and pushed his scores up a notch. Now the goal is to keep the final grades strong and him healthy (he's a wrestler and injuries are common). Like others have said, for us it is less about the tuition being paid for..more so that my DS is very serious about serving as an officer and being contracted seems to give that more of a reality. I know there are many roads that lead to commissioning (did SMP 25yrs ago..yikes!) but my DS is a much better version of what I was back then :). Appreciate all the words of encouragement as well as prior experience. Helps temper the nerves!

Congrats to all scholarship winners! My DS remains boarded so we are with the waiters club. Time to focus on getting ready for August. More scholarship apps... Fortunately, my DS plays basketball. He has an intense few months ahead of him.

Congrats to all who were awarded scholarships in the 1st board! We continue to hold fast. would anyone know what the process is to update your test scores if my Son scores higher on a subsequent test? and is there a way to adjust the priority of your College list?

The process to do both was quite simple for my DS so unless they have changed since last year have him upload the new test scores directly into the portal and he will see a green check mark once they are accepted (I think it is a check mark but am not positive)

For the school selections my DS sent an email to cadet command and asked them to please change his choices by listing his top 7 and telling them which school he removed or changed, etc.

ROTC Scholarship

First time here,
Our son has applied to VMI, The Citadel and Norwich.
His preference was in that order on his application.
He has visited and spent the overnight at VMI and Norwich.
Norwich is now his 1st choice.
My question is: will it make a difference in his ARMY ROTC Scholarship if he changes his preference?
VMI said we would hear their decision in March, But yesterday he received the acceptance phone call from Norwich. Still no news from The Citadel.
Thanks
