The CGA preps have a 2.5 week orientation in New London before heading to MMI. Am I correct in assuming all the academies do this?

The other branches do not do this.

The Coasties were already there when DS arrived last August. We could tell they were already ahead of the other cadets. They have a good program

JWP, there is no room for a desktop computer. Unless you are lucky enough to be in Trustees barracks, the rooms are roughly the size of a large broom closet
But especially as a prep cadet, a laptop (with programs similar to the word, excell, ppt, etc.) and printer are necessities.

Coasties are actually enlisted for their prep year. They are issued uniforms, "trops" being last thing as they must earn them. The 2.5 to 3 weeks they are at the Academy prior to MMI or GMC is basically CGA Swab Summer condensed to 3 weeks. So yes, they have been worked over already and do look pretty good when they show up. DS was Coastie at MMI this past year.
