Asked for my social media accounts?

The primary lesson is that being politically correct online matters, even if the person determining WHAT is politically correct changes based on the circumstance. Remember all it takes is one person in that congressman's office to be offended by your post. Be careful about "liking" posts about diversity and tolerance. Don't even think about posting a rainbow flag. And indicating your support for the science of climate change? DON'T DO IT!

I've had a number of security clearances and I've been employed by the federal government. Not once have I been asked for a social media account.

A congressional coordinator saying something is "fair game" doesn't make it so.

The expression "fair game" doesn't have anything to do with fairness. Given that these nomination decisions are based on personal evaluations, virtually anything real or imagined can be used in that evaluation.

Mu 2ndLT son has very rarely posted to his FB timeline since he joined NROTC several years ago. Just sayin'.

There's no real expectation of privacy for social media.

If you want to, change your privacy settings.

In my opinion, it's lazy to ask for the information if it's already publicly available.

If it's hard to connect to a candidate, what's the point, and if it's easy to connect to a candidate, do the 5 seconds of searching for it.

But I'm not sure I believe a bunch of staffers aren't sitting around joking about accounts...

"Hey, get this one..."
