My daughter has an opportunity to take the ASVAB Testing with her CAP squadron. Since I don't know anything about the testing, I wanted to get a few opinions from the board.

1) Do many wanna-be cadets take the test?

2) Will the results have any negative impact?

3) Are there any reasons to not take the test?

I took the ASVAB during my sophomore year, as did everyone else in my grade, even if they weren't planning on going into the military. I honestly thought the results were interesting. I found out I know way to much about the electrical section and not enough about automotive things. It doesn't impact anything negatively, but if she scores like I did, she might be getting a lot of recruitment calls.

Does this mean that the results are made public?

ASVAB taking in public high schools is a big part of the recruitment process. I know that when a Navy guy called me, he said he had looked at my scores, so the scores are available for them to access- not sure about where else the data is. BUT, I don't know about taking it outside of the public high school environment.

I took it as all seniors in my school did. I got a 98 and the recruiting rained down. I'm like, sorry 2 appointments, no private /basic airman Jayceguy here. They were all "Oh, well... have a good day"

Haha! That is hilarious!

I think I read that a 99 is the highest score, so no wonder they wanted you. :thumb:

SpaceMom, answering your questions,

1) No, wanna-be cadets do not generally take the test.

2) No negative impact.

3) No, unless you do not want your name in the enlisted recruiter system.

The ASVAB only pertains to enlisting in the ARMY/AF/NAVY/MARINES.

The scores are not made public.

It is generally bad form to talk about your score.

Around EA time I was desperately waiting on a call or email from the AF. We got one one evening and I nearly died of shock before answering and finding out it was the local AF enlisted recruiter.

ASVAB doesn't really apply to service academy/ROTC applications.
