Can anyone tell me if Kings Point does any type of athletic recruiting. I am a very active competitive sailor. I compete on the High School level and race in numerous regattas each summer. I have heard rumors that the sailing team gets a certain number of "picks" each year but I am not sure if that is accurate or how many people are competing for those slots.

    Thank You

Yes, definitely. You should contact Mike Collins, the head coach of the dinghy team. Good luck!

    Question,

Does being recruited for a sport at KP have any impact on your file if you are fully qualified?

Even if you are otherwise fully qualified, being recruited for a sport cannot possibly hurt you. Every little bit helps.

According to the coach I worked with recruited athletes at USMMA get 2 benefits in the admissions process. First you get significant extra points on the subject portion of the scoring - leadership/athletics/ec, etc. I can't remember the exact # of points but it is bascially enough to points to put you at a max score for that one area which is approximately 30% of the overall equation.

Another benefit is that the coaches usually manage to get their people considered earlier in the process - November/December time frame. I am not sure if this makes a substantive difference but it is certainly nice to know early on if you are admitted.

If you are still a junior, track down the appropriate coach now. Be persistent because they are very busy and may not get back to you right away. Visit the school, work out with the team and ask the coach to better explain the process that I mentioned above. Good Luck.

    Bill1899,

Thank you for the information. My DS is on HOLD and he is being recruited for football. We were invited to an informational session in February and my DS stayed overnight with a plebe. Great overnight visit followed up with an exit interview. The coach states that he already put a recommendation in is file and feels he would be a great fit for the academy and team. We are hopeful but ultimately it is up to admissions to extend an offer of appointment.
