To whom it may concern,
I am currently a Cadet at Norwich University applying for scholarship in the Naval ROTC program. Recently I have received a letter from DoDMERB saying that I am currently disqualified due to having "Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema after the age of eight." As of right now I am filing a waiver against this claim. Although I have had Eczema after the age of eight it has been mild and very controllable. It has not bothered me in many years and will not in any way affect my ability to be an effective officer in the United States Navy.
My questions are:
Why is "having Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema after the age of eight" a disqualifying factor for DoDMERB?
Is there anything that I can do help DoDMERB accept this waiver?
If my dermatologist supplements my medical history by adding a letter that states that my condition was minor and will most likely not affect myself from my duties as a naval officer, will this help me in the appeal process?
