I have located 2 service academy days/info session in our area (1 hour drive). One is with a Senator and is at noon on a school day and one is in the evening with our Congressman. Is it important to attend as many of these as possible (concerned about DS missing most of a day of school for the one, but he can definitely make up the work)?
He is a candidate for the USMA class of 2018, has pretty much completed his application (waiting for teachers to send in recommendation, and for DodMERB results) and has attended an admissions event at USMA.
what is done at these events? Is there an opportunity afterwards to meet the MOC?

The events are really more to drum up interest in the academies and explain the application process. The MOCs application process and timelines may also be reviewed. There is normally a chance to speak with reps from the different academies at separate tables around the room after the presentations. At least that's my experience.

Given you're already way into the process, my own recommendation would be not to bother attending. It wouldn't hurt to attend one and maybe ask some questions if you still have them, but I don't think you'll really gain much. There is certainly no benefit to attending more than one. IMHO anyway.

Thanks - I was thinking it would be more like that - informational to start the process.

+1 to kinnem. If you are that far into the process, I don't think you will learn much. They really do seem to be recruiting events.

+2 to kinnem. DS and I went to a few of these and quickly found them to be repetitive. He did meet the Representative at the one he sponsored as well as the staff person running the nominations. Interesting, useful in so far as one could put a face to the voice on the phone, but not a factor in getting the nom. At another I found the guy heading up the Blue &Gold group in our area by reading name tags, and introduced him to my son. Again, interesting, a good guy to meet, but had no bearing on the ultimate decisions.
Sounds like you have been to one before. If not, it might be informative. Definitely not worth going to all of them.
