My son has decided to take the 3yr AROTC at Auburn @ Montgomery. The least expensive housing option double room quad has very few beds left for Male students. Two rooms that already had a student one was a 31 yo male, One was a smoker and one a 21 yo senior. There was one room with other room already full. There was one room left that had no one in so he grabbed a bed in it and we are hoping that maybe that can create a ROTC quad room. Being able to have roommates that get going to bed early to be ready for PT the next day as well as sorry but I don't want my teen in a room with a 31yo especially but also limiting them being bunked with 21+ers that can legally bring in alcohol which can lead to drinking/drunk parties late at night while ROTC cadets need to be able to keep grades and fitness up.

If you / DS are going to be a ROTC cadet at AUM please use the roommate search son has info that he is wanting a ROTC quad as well as room # and building in his view able roommate profile. I am not positive but the room he is not in may be able to have females in the other bedroom of the suite but they share a bathroom between the quad and pretty sure that might not be a great set up even if it is allowed.

First, congratulations on the 3 year AD for your DS!

+1 on rooming with someone who is early to bed and...
a. A REALLY heavy sleeper OR
b. Also in AROTC and won't conflict with bathroom schedules.

My DS is currently in a triple with two non-AROTC roommates. One sleeps through DS's 0500 PT mornings, the other wakes up and gets annoyed.
DS is moving in the Fall to an apartment with 3 other ROTC cadets and each cadet gets his own bathroom. MUCH better arrangement.

The great thing with AUM's roommate profile they have them put what Temp they like their room, What time go to bed, what time get up, messy or neat with 4 levels, if smoke and if willing to live with a smoker. (AUM has a no tobacco policy but also even if your smoking roommate is not smoking in the room their clothing is going to add odors to the room as well as how many times they are going in and out at all hours to have a smoke. Some may decide to use e-cigs which if they are using nicotine juice if the person does not clean up after spills or doesn't realize juice is leaking could lead to nicotine poisoning of you/DS/DD. But they also have a 'about you' part where they put info about themselves and he put the ROTC info there as well. Of all the freshman aged on the roommate search only one stated they were 'wanting to do ROTC' but they were already showing a room selection. Letting his PMS know his room in case they have other freshman contacting them for direction on housing. Have been watching the list of 2nd board winners but don't think there was one for first board so not sure if anyone ese has posted. Since DS did not apply for AFROTC have not followed any of those posts to know if any AF winners have posted they were going to AUM so although they may have different PT times would be close to same time. The bathroom sharing is gonna be worst for DS since he is a multi showers a day kid even before he started running in AM lol. I am mostly surprised that so many girls are in the quads. 4 young women sharing a bathroom without issues seems unbelievable. LOL

At least I have taught mine to clean up and talked to him about that and how practicing the DA6 skills could be a good thing lol (note DA6 is Duty scheduling form in Army) Mine is one of the youngest at turns 17 just at start of Fall but child is like a mini Robin Williams since puberty he has had to learn to clean up so he doesn't have a fur carpet lol.
