Authorized to Retake CFA

I recently took the CFA and the results were posted to my candidate portal by my gym teacher. I just noticed on my USMA candidate portal today that I have been authorized to retake the Candidate Fitness Assessment.

Does this mean I failed the CFA? I looked at the "CFA Instructions" booklet on my candidate portal and based on my scores, I scored above average on every part of the test but the flexed arm-hang, which I held for about nine seconds. I assume that the flexed arm-hang is what made me fail the test.

At this point I just want to get the CFA completed, so does anyone happen to know the minimum passing score for the flexed arm-hang? I realize I should strive for above-average, but I don't think I will be able to hold the flexed arm-hang for nineteen or twenty seconds. I also cannot perform a pull-up.

When are you taking the CFA?

I think that you can workout to reach 1 pullup in a short... get a pullup bar and put it on your bedroom's door (or any door you go through often). Try performing a pullup every time you go under it. If you can't do the pullup still, do a negative - whether jump and lower yourself VERY SLOWLY (as slow as you can go) or get someone to raise you slowly (then lower yourself slowly).

I don't know the minimum flexed-arm hang, sry :/

The fact that you are being asked to retake the CFA might mean that you are in the pool of candidates that they are interested in, but your WCS needs to improve with respect to your CFA. I would do everything you can to improve your results from before and get the CFA back to them before the deadline. Good luck.

CFA Re-Do

Hi
My DS has LOA and MOC but was instructed to retake his CFA. He will do this Friday and has been working to get better at situp and pushups as well as mile run. If they are offering you a second chance, you can bet you are in the running. Take this second chance and do your best.
Regards
John

Did you try doing a pull up? For girls, 1 pull up is wayyyyyyyy better than completing the flex arm hang. In other words, you can pass by just doing 1 pull up.

I just paid attention to your last sentence lol. Try working to be able to do one pull up. I have two friends that weren't able to do a pull up and they did some different work outs to help them. If you want, I can ask them the workouts they did and I can give them to you.

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful responses! I just installed a pull-up bar in my room and I'm going to try to complete one pull-up when I take the CFA in a couple of weeks since one pull-up is better than any length of the flexed arm-hang. Again, thanks for the helpful responses!

My DS, Class of 2015, was authorized to re-take the CFA. It means you have something the academy is looking for but they need to see a better CFA to know you can meet the physical demands.

My DS hit a wall on pull-ups and nothing he did helped until his older brother stepped in and told him he had a muscle memory problem. Almost doubled his pull-ups in two weeks with this little tip. Stop trying to make one pull-up by yourself and not getting it. Have a friend/parent/whoever assist you ever so slightly every time you do pull-ups so you actually make it through the full range. You will probably do three or four the first time with just a little help.
