I've looked everywhere for the average ACT score for USNA, and I can't seem to find one. Does anyone have any clue? Or willing to share their stats?

The class profile for 2015 has general ranges for the middle 50th percentile:
    http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/USNA 2015 Class Portrait.pdf

You can convert those scores to ACT equivalent with any of the many conversion tables available online.

To be competitive, you should aim for 1400+ CR/M on the SAT, which is about a 32 on the ACT.

It depends on your area. In our area I personally have not heard of anyone getting an appointment with under a 33 in Math & English (not counting URM and RA). My son has a 34 in English and Math; if this was last year the person who received the congressional appointment scored higher then my son's scores and all else being equal my son would not have had high enough scores with a 34 English and a 34 Math.

The average SAT and ACT scores will appear in the Class Profile for the Class of 2016 when it is released. You can find the average scores in the class profiles for prior years and it is a safe bet that the scores will be quite consistent. The thing is - you really need to be shooting for the best scores you can attain! By shooting for or accepting the average scores as good enough you are handicapping yourself as a candidate! The result can be found in this forum's archives over the last couple of months as candidates agonize over not having received a BFE or having received a TWE. You really need to get your SAT math in the >700 range (SAT 30+) and your SAT verbal >650 (ACT >28), but really the recent scores of successful candidates in this area are ranging higher than that! I hate to use an Air Force slogan, but you really should Aim High! It's your call, but I'm just saying...

My son received a appointment Class 2016. He was a recruited athlete and received a LOA. But he received a candidate visit offer from admissions and official visit offer from track team. The coach said that he was offered the visit from admissions on his own stats, not do to the track team. He received his nomination from our local Congressman. We're in Texas, the hardest area to get a nomination. I have heard of two other students getting appointments in our area and didn't have super high scores, not recruited athletes either. Maybe the academies are looking for good all around leaders. Of course the highest score you can get will give you a better chance, good luck!

    ACT math 30 English 26
    SAT Math 650 Englsh 550
    Eagle scout
    Lots of scout leadership
Varsity track and captain track team
    Community service over 500 hours
Natural helpers club officer at school

    Admission office

This spring (2012) the admissions officer told the group she was presenting to that the average ACT score was 27/28 of those admitted. If true, this implies there are lot of lower scores in the mix.

if you convert the SAT numbers into ACT ranges that are shown on the 2015 Class PDF, you get about a 29 as the median.

seems like high 20's are the average from what I can tell.

They only put out the SAT averages in class profiles. You can convert them to ACT though. http://www.usna.edu/admissions/USNA 2014 Class Portrait.pdf

    scores

My son had 33 in Math and English. He got in yesterday for Class of 2016.
However, he committed to West Point months ago. He will play ball there too.

So with a 33 in both math and English he was wait listed. I think I read previously that you are also from Illinois. I think your son's stats are very important. You should not look at what the averages are because in many areas the averages will not get you in. My recommendation (and I admittedly know nothing as I only have a Junior son just starting the process) is don't leave any ACT points on the table. Keep taking it.

Good luck to your son at USMA!!! BTW your son is the third from Illinois that I have heard that had over a 33 in Math and English, got an appointment and turned it down. (????)

My son initially very interested in USNA and USMA. Wanted to go subs and major in engineering. Established an excellent relationship with his BGO and was waitlisted. Meanwhile was heavily recruited by IVYs,MIT, and other service academies for football and academics. Got in those places but decided on USMA and he is very happy. It all depends on your district.

I scored a 32 on English and 35 on Math. LOA'ed and appointed.... I am from a rather noncompetitive area and somewhat a minority.

I do tell people I know that unlike a lot of public state colleges, there is not such thing as a presumed safety score for USNA.

Personally, I feel shooting for the AVERAGE SAT or ACT scores is a losing approach for a candidate. Re-read the responses above - how many tell of candidates well above the average scores who DID NOT get an offer of appointment? You have to play to WIN, not be an also ran.

    SAT/ACT cross test super score?

Will admissions cross super score tests? Take highest English score from ACT and highest math score from SAT?

Yes. USNA used SAT math and ACT English for my DS last year (LOA in late Sept 2013).

Admissions will convert the submitted Math and English ACT scores into the SAT score equivalents. Meaning a 34 Math and 33 English may be converted to 770 Math and 740 English.

    Hope that helps.

    Interesting JShawshank

I was always under the impression that all of the SAs use the same system where they will super score, but did not mix and match the tests. IOWS, they will take the ACT translate it into an SAT score, now if the SAT score is higher than the converted ACT they will use that and if the converted ACT is higher than they use that, however, they won't take the ACT English and add it with the SAT Math to give a totally new super score.

USNA converts ACT to SAT and then takes the highest of the bunch. The stats on my son's paperwork at USNA shows his converted ACT English score (higher than his SAT verbal) and his SAT math score (higher than his ACT math).

    Can you provide some stats?

Other than your ACTs, any insight into your other factors? Leadership? Varsity sports? Being recruited? Legacy? State?

    Thanks and Congratulations!

Don't worry so much about the average of everybody else, focus on yours and how you did the best you could. what matters is that you give it your all on the test and you did the best you could.

@Navy2016 congrats on your Appointment, awesome scores!!!
