Apply for ROTC, preferably with a scholarship..... then re-apply for the service academy next year.

My son, currently a mid at USNA, applied for all 3 ROTC programs and found 2 colleges where he qualified for full tuition scholarship based on grades/SATs. At your age, you just never know what you are going to want to do 8 months from now. It was a good thing, because he changed directions and decided on Navy fairly late into the game.

    This was his order:

    Choice 1: USNA

    Choice 2: UCLA NROTC

Choice 3: Civilian school w/ full ride

When he received his appointment to USNA, he dropped his AROTC and AFROTC scholarships. He held on to 1 civilian school and NROTC until it got closer to Induction day. He withdrew his admissions to civilian school and then once he completed I-day, dropped UCLA and NROTC.

He kept in contact with all ROTC programs at all of the schools he was admitted to just in case something happens this year at USNA. He also had personal letters from a few admission deans telling him to contact them if he wanted to transfer after 1st year was over.

Always keep the options open! It's hard work, but worth it if you have a change of heart or you are injured before Induction day.

Good Luck! You have exciting times ahead of you.

Applied to VMI and Norwich. Then a whole set of civilian schools (UMich, GW, Fordham and a few others). Will likely do PLC if I don't get anything in the way of NROTC or USNA. Only want Marines as the end goal, so no point in applying for any other branches of ROTC.

Do you want to be a Marine aviator? Because, you should know, last year, not a single 2Lt from any commissioning source other than the Naval Academy was selected for pilot training.

Nope. Ideally infantry. But would be happy with any ground MOS.

Although that is interesting that they only selected from USNA for pilot slots.

By the end of this year, I will have already completed two full years of college. So, if I don't get into USNA this time around, I'll be going to UT-Austin on a Two-Year NROTC Scholarship.
