I am currently a junior and would like to apply to USAFA for the class of 2022. My brother is currently a C2C at USAFA. My concern is that I do not do a sport, and I haven't since 7th grade. However, I do ballet 30+ hours of ballet a week all year round. Will they recognize this as an athletic activity (because ballet is very demanding mentally and physically), or not?

My DD is currently a candidate and she has danced competitively since she was 7 (ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary) and they counted her dancing as athletic due to the number of hours and training (both in studio and conditioning) that is required. She did make sure that she had her dance teacher do a recommendation explaining exactly the commitment involved and also an in depth explanation on her activity record regarding the athleticism required. Hope that helps. In the words of my daughter, "Dance is a sport!" :)

Please go to the top of this forum, and read the thread "Sports and your academy application". You don't have to read every post, but at least read the first one that started the thread. You'll find that the CFA is designed to test your "Physical Fitness". SPORTS is looked upon so positively for many OTHER REASONS. NOT just "Athletics". So, read the opening post in that thread; then figure out a way to apply ALL/As Many of those attributes to your ballet; THEN SELL IT to your ALO and on your application.

FWIW: This advice applies to ALL other posters who ask if Martial Arts, Body Building, Church League, YMCA, etc. are good substitutes for High School Varsity Sports.

^^^ +1

Also, make sure you document your time in preparation.

As an important note: please note that you MUST prepare, diligently, for the CFA. Look at the many threads regarding it.
