Based on these grades/qualifications should I enlist in the USAF or AFROTC?

I may try for usafa (prob won't get accepted but apparently I have a habit of selling myself short) as my plan A, rotc plan B and enlist as plan C. I also left out the fact that I have a job (not so good hours right now but a job none the less) and I am in a percussion ensemble for my school. My only concern with my grads besides lack of honors/AP is my german/english scores aren't (66 in German hopefully I can fix that. I really don't want to take it but my school highly recomends it for getting accepted into colleges) the best. Yet I have not had a study hall / lunch since I was able to pick my classes and will get my first HS lunch next year if the scheduling works out I guess the will be considered in part of the WCS?

I know that if you are on free and reduced lunch in the state of Georgia, you get a couple free SAT/ACT tests, I believe the number is four, and 8 waivers for college applications. I wasn't on it personally, though most of my friends were. That's the problem with being middle class, your too well off to qualify for need based scholarships, yet too poor to pay for college. So I know what you mean about not having a bunch of money to take them nilly willy. Everyone gets their 1st SAT test free, then every one after that is $40, I only took the real one twice so it didn't cost me too much. Paying for AP tests are killer, but there are also programs that greatly reduce the costs for kids on free and reduced lunch. Prices also depend on your school or state, some schools have more funding for it than others so they are free or extreemely cheap for their students and some are like mine was where they were $80 a pop plus the initial $15 fee:cool:, the price of doing dual enrollment was less than that for me. As for the SAT prep book, the ones that include every subject are expensive, but if you get one of the one subject ones like I did, they're only like $30.

I don't know how it is in your state, but you should really check into what programs they have to pay for all this.

My school can aford a geothermal heating system that pumps out cold air in the dead of winter but free sat test ate just unheard of. We have to pay the full price ourselves. And I definitely feel you on that middle class part, I just hope I get enough sumer hours to pay for my CIH courses

And the physics teacher came up to me and said that because I didn't do to well on the AP screener. prereq for the AP is trig and the pre req for Honors is calc, it even says that ap is trig based in the course description, Idk why it seems bassackwards to me too. Psu was my choice for a backup the only thing I heard is that average sat for getting accepted to main campus as a freshman is 1800. I don't have the money right now to sign up for another sat let alone a prep book, ill search around for freebies. Although I am signed up for the SAT question of the day and haven't missed a day yet.
Now that I think of it - I think your school offers AP Physics B. Take note, that there are two different levels of AP Physics, one is Bravo and the other is Charlie. I am taking AP Physics C, which requires calculus. I am assuming your school offers B, which from what I have heard - does not require calculus. Physics C is a harder course, as it is more geared towards engineering.

Don't be too worried about getting 1800; I got in with 1580 - to main campus. If you're still interested in going to PSU, send me a PM sometime in the fall or something, and I'll be happy to show you around.

Go to your local library and rent a couple practice books if money is an issue; that's what I did.

Pennsylvania does something similar to this, my friend is in that boat - will have to inquire about this.

When summer lets out, I would recommend starting to do some soul searching and seeing what you truly want to do. Really take some time and sit down to think about where you want to be in 5 years, 10 years, and 20 years; make a list of pro's and con's for each. If you can do some college visits and if possible, contact the ROTC admissions officer and tell him of your situation. He/she can definitely give you some guidance as to what you want to do. You can talk to an enlisted recruiter ... but tread very carefully - most will try to enlist you no matter what you say, there is the occasional exception - but too few and far in between.

Absolutely! Congratulations! :thumb:

Bitterguy,

Just apply for AFA and AFROTC. It cost nothing, just time.

All you have to pay is your time.

Plus if you apply AFA and they consider you a candidate you will be assigned an ALO,

I am awaiting to get my scores back from the SAT. I also went to
Academyadmissions.com and found my alo and shot them an email and are awaiting a response
