What are good things to know for BCT (such as knowledge that would be good to learn, advice/tips)? Thanks

Pay attention, don't quit, always do your best, and don't take things personally. The cadre are there to train you. Pointing out what you need to improve on is part of their job.

Stay under the radar unless you want your life to be miserable. I watched many people learn that lesson the hard way...

To add to Raimius' point of not taking it personally:

The academy is taking 1000+ individuals from all 50 states; U.S. territories; foreign countries; rich, poor, urban, rural, ranch, farm, suburban, traditional family, single parent, 1000 graduating high school, private school, home school, men, women, white, black, hispanic, asian, etc....

Now, they have to take 1000+ totally unique individuals with pretty much NOTHING in common, and try to teach them to be a team. Teach them that the basic concept and fiber of the military's core is team work. That with all your differences, you must find what you have in common, concentrate on that, and help each other. Well; the first thing they must do is BREAK YOU DOWN. Get rid of your "Individuality". (You will get that back later). And this is where people take it personally, get their feelings hurt, and don't feel like they belong. When they are being screamed at or told to do things that seem to be beneath them, there is a reason and a method behind the madness.

So; if you understand WHY you are being treated the way you are, then you realize it's to get 1000+ individuals to LEARN how to be a team, and not be the independent individual who probably got through a lot of high school on their own. You can not win a war or a battle on your own. Once you understand the WHY, you can not take it personally. Raimius gives great advice. Listen to him. Best of luck. Mike....
