Hello all....I was wondering if anyone has tried sending pictures via the "write2them" service? I know we aren't allowed to send real photographs with a letter, but since signing up with "write2them", It looks like we can attach pic into the email. Would this get our DS in trouble, or is it ok to do? Thanks

It would be squadron dependent. My DD had embedded picture confiscated.

When I went through pictures were considered contraband. You could send them, have your son/daughter see them in the mail room and then pass them off to the cadre to be returned after BCT.

Dang it! I copied and pasted some in my letters that I typed in word. I had no idea. Some of his friends wrote really nice posts on facebook about him, which he doesn't even have, that I wanted him to read.

No stress. As was said, the pictures might be taken until after BCT. But it's the thought that counts and he will probably get to see them before they are taken. Sending funny cartons or jokes is also a good option as his Cadre and flight will enjoy a good laugh as BCT progresses (Cadre often have the Basic read the carton/joke for all to hear before taking them).

My parents had pictures embedded and no one cared at all, they didn't want to take them away because it had a letter with it. And to be completely honest most cadre really don't care about pictures, as long as you're not sending a photo album of your son or daughter, they'll let it slide. What I enjoyed the most was that my dad would always send a comic strip at the bottom of his letters, my roommate and I always looked forward to getting those every few days, makes for a fun time.

If you can, find military humor cartoons, especially Air Force, that will add some "lift" to their mail call and Cadre will enjoy too (most importantly!!)

This is very squadron dependent. DD's cadre took every letter that had a picture/cartoon/etc in it. No images were allowed.

To be fair, DD's squadron was probably the most strict last year. They developed a reputation for that.

It was CS10, but don't let that worry you. The rising 2degs get moved to a new squadron and the 4degs become the 3degs. A squadron that was tough last year could end up being really laid back this year.
