BCT Squadron Assignments!

Aggressors

We were Aggressors last year. Moved into CS 2 which is a great squadron. Staying in 2 again this year. Good luck to everyone! You will find out the flights on I day. Aggressors B will be with my son.

So how does the move between freshman year and sophomore year work?

In recent years 4*s were learned of their new squadron in the April or May timeframe. Squadron assignments were more or random unless you legacy in to a parent's or sibling's old squadron. You might go by yourself or you might be like me and go with three other freshman year squadronmates. This year the Commandant decided this move would occur at the end of 3* year instead of 4* year.

Any particular reasoning behind the delay? Is it just an experiment to see how it affects the squadron dynamic?

Yeah, that's my understanding. Squadron shuffle after 4* year has been the standard in recent years (maybe the last 10???), but they've done it it after two years before. There's something to be said for both approaches. For example, shuffling after 4* year more or less allows freshman a clean slate with a new group of upperclassmen that were not their primary trainers. On the other hand, having freshman stay for an another year provides upperclassmen more incentive to put maximum effort into training/developing their young ones since they won't be leaving...

Why are appointees finding this information out prior to inprocessing? This was not the way it was done in the past. The same thing with finding out their base assignments prior to 100's night. Might as well give them theis AFSC's now also

Appointees are receiving their Basic squadron assignment along with a specific reporting time for that squadron in an effort to stagger and smooth out the inflow of Appointees on I-Day. Although last year we observed that Appointees who arrived before their designated reporting time were in-processed as they arrived.

Having talked to some brand new LTs about this particular change, it sounds more like an OPR bullet for a certain AOC rather than a sensible change. The last classes that had 2/2 instead of 1/3 were '03/'04. IIRC, '04 never changed squadron due to that year being the change year.
