Bears Unveil New Logos and Uniforms

NEW LONDON, Conn.--The Coast Guard Academy introduced its new brand at a press conference at the Coast Guard Academy Exchange on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears new primary logo is a fierce orange bear with the words BEARS and underneath that, U.S. Coast Guard Academy with the racing stripe.

There are several secondary marks including the orange Bear which will be featured on the football helmet, and interlocking “CGA” and a paw with the Coast Guard racing stripe.

The athletic department and the Coast Guard Community Services Command entered a partnership with adidas America and all of the Academy’s athletic teams will have brand new adidas uniform this season. Senior football co-captains linebacker Curt Barrett and tight end Casey Paris were on hand to model the new football uniforms for the 2012 season.

Coast Guard will wear the adidas TechFit uniform this year, the same uniform that is worn by Notre Dame, UCLA, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Michigan just to name a few.

Tim Fitzpatrick, Coast Guard Academy Director of Athletics said “This isn’t just about new logos - our rebranding is reflective of the positive, affirmative spirit of our program…..over 600 varsity cadet-athletes who one day will be leaders of character serving our nation in the Coast Guard. This initiative, as well as the partnership with adidas as our department’s shoe and apparel provider and Community Services Command, is an indication of our desire to provide our cadet-athletes with the very best resources that we possibly can. We do it to show our gratitude for the service that they will one day render, and we do it because they deserve the very best.”

Go Bears, Beat Kings Point!

I was going to write that I wasn't a fan.... but the more I've looked at it, the more I think I can get behind it. That said, the old interlocking CGA looked better than this new thing. I wonder if new uniforms we purchased for all of CGA's varsity sports.

I mean, I like the pawprint one... I'm just not sure of the actual, you know, goofy looking bear.

Did they hold a drawing contest at East Lyme elementary school to get that bear logo?

I really don't like to say anything negative, but Bruce, I agree. Whoever was on the committee either went the cheap route or stock print. Not too sure about those claw marks on the sleeves either; are the USCGA players goring one another? From what I understand it is a contract agreement with Adidas...

My daughter's school just announced a 're-branding' that was.... underwhelming. Some, like me, were prompted to wonder about the cost and wonder what was wrong with the old 'brand' that necessitated changing it. I'm having the same thoughts in this case.
Now, Penn State re-branding I could understand.

I believe bears maul.
