are basic cadets allowed to bring moleskin/blister patch to jack's valley?
what are the specific rules on compression shorts?
insoles for running shoes or boots?
if i bring some during in-processing, would they let me keep them?

any input would be much appreciated. thanks

Blister care items will be issued and available through the medical staff.
If insoles are for medical reasons, they will be approved. If otherwise, it may be up to staff discretion. Boot insoles are available at the Cadet Store (although most of the modern boots don't really need them).

Reading previous threads, it sounds like most basics (including my son) got to keep compression shorts they brought last year, so its worth a try. Different cadre this year, but I would bet same result. If for some reason yours are taken away and stored until after Recognition, use your issued bathing suit or PT shorts under ABU's to minimize chafing.

    Good luck!

There may have been some larger people who needed the compression shorts
but I don't think it was a big problem at all a couple of years ago!!!!

    Personal boots for BCT?

Are cadets allowed to purchase/use their own boots for USAFA BCT?

No, cadets are not allowed to have their own boots during BCT. Now, after is dependent on your squadron.

Is that official word, or are you just going off the notion that non-standard boots are not allowed? I ask because several years ago appointees were told to buy boots with specific specs and bring them. I know the boots issue process has been revised since then, but I'm curious.

Last year there was no provision for bringing any boots in. They did not allow you to purchase them even from local BX. They were told not to bring them with them on I-day. All would be issued when they arrived.
A few years ago, they did allow you to bring boots. I have two cadets, 2014 and 2016. I am not trying to give false information. I will see if I still have the candidate booklet on my computer and quote it directly.

Our C4C class of 2016 brought a pair of sage boots. Got a little bit of admonition about it during I-day but was allowed to keep it and was not issued a new pair. There are preppies who also brought their own boots. I believe that the reason boots were brought in the past was because they needed to be broken in. The current boots are not full leather like before and need little or no breaking in.

Our c4c was told not to bring them. But I would definitely say buy them, run in them and bring them if they allow it. She wishes should would have. It makes no sense not to do so. We felt that way before basic, but listened to others who said don't worry about it - wish we had went with out gut. If our second gets an appointment for class of 2017 she will be bringing hers.

Don't beat me up, but just my 0.019864 cents.

It is not even Dec., @7 months away from I-Day. Trust me come May, all you will see on this forum are these questions, i.e. why this thread has been born again.

We all know you are excited about your future, but honestly, if you have an appointment, sit back, and enjoy your sr. yr.. Don't wish your life away.

If you don't have an appointment, and are just excited about what may be in your future, spend the time updating your profile. Enjoy your sr. yr. and don't wish your life away.

In 7 months from now, the memories you made with your friends and family will be what you will want more than anything else. Make the memories, May/June will be here soon enough and those questions will be answered ad nauseum on this forum. You will have months to get your stuff in order.

Go ahead, I am ready for my 1000 lashes of a wet LoMein noodle.

I agree completely with Pima! I was so ready to leave and begin my new life, that I missed out on some sr yr activities. The time goes by fast, so treasure your friends and family, those memories will get you through a lot.

The boots I received needed breaking in! My feet hurt so much the first month of being here to the Prep School! And I definitely wasn't alone. I don't know if I would recommend buying them before you get out here, because really, when are you going to wear them? Enjoy your time before you leave, seriously!
