I have my nomination application in hand and completed, but I will be attending SLS at West Point in a week. So should I wait until I go and change my essay based on my experiences at West Point or should I just send it in as is?

I'd wait until after SLS, it may change your decision overall (Regardless if you really want to go as of now).

I waited until the beginning of my senior year to turn mine in, so that I could include any more positions I received. Remember that nomination applications aren't rolling, so you don't have to rush them in.

Yep. If you think you can get more and better things to report, definitely wait. There's really no point in rushing, I believe. As long as you get it before the deadline, you should be fine :)
