Anybody know if they have a bell choir at the Naval Academy in association with the chapel? I play hand bells at my church and would be interested in continuing playing at USNA. Thanks!

Experience is that if enough mids voice interest in an activity and the proper person is approached with the idea, etc., there is a better than even chance that the idea will be endorsed and acted upon - especially if there will be a positive outcome. Good luck. BTW, obviously I don't know whether there is a bell choir at USNA.

Not sure about a bell choir, but 1964BGO is right about Mids being able to form ECAs. A couple of Mids from KY are spearheading the effort to form an equestrian team at USNA. There is no money available for official support, but that hasn't kept these Mids from getting USNA approval to get barn space, donated horses, tack, etc., plus getting approval for the Mids in the club to go off the Yard to take care of the horses in their "spare" time. If there isn't a bell choir yet, make it happen!

Thanks for the replies, I'll definitely look into that when I'm there! Anybody else know if there is a bell choir or not?

Don't know about bell choir. My daughter has said she will try to sing, at least Protestant choir (she'd love to sing Gospel but isn't sure she has enough soul--or rhythm:wink:! LOL). She played bells for awhile and might be interested.

I don't think there is a bell group. We usually have a few mids each year who are in Glee Club, orchestra or other musical groups, and attend most of the musical events on the Yard. I think we would have heard bells if there were a group...

As noted above, many Extra Curricular Activity (ECA) groups are born from a group of mids with a shared interest who gain command support and sponsorship.

Here's the Music Department page, which seems to gather up all the likely groups that a bell group would fit with.

Something to look into when you get there, when you have a spare nanosecond.
