You know folks- after 280 posts- of which about 275 are repeats of the original 5 - it is time to let this thread expire. A good indication of the readiness of a thread to be put to bed is the number of posters in it and the number of repeat posts. This is the same 4 or 5 people- almost NONE OF THEM candidates (which is instructive in itself), trying rather unsuccessfully over and over and over again to make their point. LET IT GO unless you actually have something of substance to add. REPEATING your point with a couple of different words is not something of substance. If that's all you got- don't share it anymore.

100 senators + 435 HOR = 535 x 10 nomination = 5350

and

according to 2014 profile = 4658
The 6000 was actually a Crabtown fish wrapper news article commending the fact that USNA had finally gotten every district to participate. I doubted it too so I went back and found Cdr Carpenter's press release. Add the territories and District and you are up to 540. Now, factor in the fact that each MOC can have 5 at the Academy at a time. 540 x 1.25 = 675. Only 4 out of 5 graduate so another 1.25 or so factor. 675 x 1.25 = 843. 843 possible slates each year. For 4658 nominations, that is an average of only 5.52 candidates per slate. This means that for every two filled slate of 10, there is an empty slate and a slate of one. Remember, the news release was that most, if not all, MOCs participated. Much more believable is that half the districts average 9 or so and the other half averaged at least 5 candidates. This would put the MOC total nominations around 6000. I believe that, to make the presentation plausable, and to avoid double representation, the Congressional number in the class profile is those who only received the MOC nom in order to accurately present all the lesser ones. Just my guess. Or we could believe that USNA is promulgating bad information. For what reason, in this case, I cannot imagine. This very news release was the subject of a topic on this forum. Maybe someone remembers it (or wants to look it up). Anyway, more than 3 grand and the Army and Navy are indeed different. This forum has a problem historically of posters assuming all SAs are the same.

Bruno, I would agree but also add that repeatedly asking the same question over and over is equally non-productive.
I am gonna leave you all with a few links pertaining to the subject at hand that interested folks might wish to peruse.....

Members of Congress set a record last year of more than 6,600 nominations for prospective students seeking to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, the academy's dean of admissions said Monday.........

Special Note to Just_A_Mom - Before you personally attack me by FALSELY saying I called someone a liar (something I would have been banned for without a doubt!) perhaps you should check the official US Naval Academy Source for your info instead of DC's channel 9.

Or maybe reading comprehension is a problem. The article you reference CLEARLY states the following:

Congressional nominations account for about 75 percent of all the nominations received by students.

http://www.usna.edu/admissions/USNA 2014 Class Portrait.pdf

NOMINATING CATEGORIES

Presidential 773
Congressional 4,658
Secretary of the Navy 377
ROTC/JROTC 312
Children of Deceased or Disabled Veterans 22

Well said. Reading comprehension is a section of the SAT... not sure if it was always there.

alright - every body has said their piece- when we are now discussing who is "lying" then the Thread has lost all utility. Este es cerrado
